  2. Kyrgios on cruise controlpublished at 09:17 GMT 15 January 2018

    Kyrgios 6-1 6-2 Dutra Silva

    BBC Sport at Melbourne Park

With five minutes remains until the hour mark in this match, Kyrgios is two sets up on Brazilian Dutra Silva and completely untroubled. Twelve aces, 25 winners, four breaks of serve and, perhaps most importantly, no sign of the knee strapping he wore throughout his victorious run in Brisbane two weeks ago.

    Nadal 6-1 5-0 Estrella Burgos*

Rafa's got a bit careless here. His forehand drops wide of the line to hand Estrella Burgos another break opportunity.

The world number 81 can't snatch it again. He's gone long.

WAIT, another break point! He's outsmarted Nadal at the net with a volley followed by a slam.

Oh heck. Break point #3 has gone too. Estrella Burgos sends a forehand over the whitewash.

    We continue...

  5. Nadal fends off break pointpublished at 09:09 GMT 15 January 2018

    Nadal 6-1 5-0 Estrella Burgos*

Oh, hello. Estrella Burgos has snatched a point from Rafa's serve. And another. He's 15-30 up.

The 37-year-old tries to flip a delicate backhand over the net, but it doesn't clear it. Never mind, though. Rafa hits high and wide and offers up a break point to his languishing opponent.

But now the Dominican has got his hand on his head. A sliced backhand goes into the net and the break point disappears.

  6. Nadal breaks againpublished at 09:04 GMT 15 January 2018

    *Nadal 6-1 5-0 Estrella Burgos

Victor Estrella Burgos edges towards a hold of serve, moving 30-15 ahead. But then the Dominican clips a forehand into the net. He looks frustrated.

That frown continues as Nadal comes forward to volley cross-court to bring up another break point.

It's saved! Our first deuce of the match. But then Estrella Burgos lands a forehand wide of the sidelines.

Another break point for the Spaniard. This time he takes it, as his opponent hits long.

This is only going one way...

  7. What can Estrella Burgos do to stop Nadal?published at 08:58 GMT 15 January 2018

    Leon Smith
GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Estrella Burgos is not going to beat Nadal on power so he has to try something else and keep mixing the play with spin, drops and lobs, but it's difficult to do that given the pace of the ball he is receiving from Nadal and the amount of ground he has to cover.

    Nadal 6-1 4-0 Estrella Burgos*

Nadal throws down his second ace of the match, followed by a volleyed winner for 40-0.

Estrella Burgos nets and it's another hold to love for the world number one.

  9. Keeping up with Rafapublished at 08:56 GMT 15 January 2018

    Leon Smith
GB Davis Cup captain on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Fatigue has to be setting in even though Estrella Burgos has only been on court for 40 minutes because of the number of sprints he's having to put in. He's having to chase everything and is working his socks off.

  10. Double break for Nadalpublished at 08:55 GMT 15 January 2018

    *Nadal 6-1 3-0 Estrella Burgos

Victor Estrella Burgos thinks he's just sunk a winner into the corner. Rafa has a different idea.

The world number one pulls out a ridiculous stretching return which surprises Estrella Burgos so much he drops his racquet.

Nadal brings up another two break points. One is saved by a pulsating forehand from Estrella Burgos, straight down Rafa's left-hand side.

But then the Dominican goes long (again). Nadal's lead extends (again).

    *Nadal 6-1 1-0 Estrella Burgos

I can't remember Victor Estrella Burgos making a single trip to the net in the first set.

He's just come rushing in and completely outfoxed the world number one with a simple but smart dropshot. The crowd give him a big cheer for that.

But then it all comes undone. The Dominican is back on the baseline, inviting powerful returns, and Nadal brings up a single break point.

It looks like Burgos has hit long...but he challenges...and even Rafa tells him to challenge that call. They're both right - it landed on the line.

He's not so lucky on the next attempt. Estrella Burgos does hit long this time and Nadal breaks for an early lead in the second set.

He made it through three games unscathed against Rogerio Dutra Silva but Nick Kyrgios picks up a code violation in game four, umpire Fergus Murphy unimpressed by his admonishment of the crowd for calling out during his service motion. Kyrgios then enters into a debate with Murphy at the changeover about the rights and wrongs of the warning.

Meanwhile, the Australian 17th seed rolls through the first set with two breaks and looks extremely impressive. You need to if you're wearing 'hot pink'.

    *Nadal 5-1 Estrella Burgos

A warm round of applause for Victor Estrella Burgos, who gets off the mark for 15-0 in his service game. The Melbourne crowd obviously want to see a competitive match, and not a walkover.

The Dominican world number 81 stays composed as Nadal challenges a call on the baseline - his return was called out before the umpire overruled it. It goes in Estrella Burgos' favour after the replay.

And he avoids the bagel! Estrella Burgos holds to get off the mark in the Australian Open first round.

  16. Postpublished at 08:31 GMT 15 January 2018

    Nadal 5-0 Estrella Burgos*

Just when it looks like another love hold, Rafael Nadal hits a forehand just long over the baseline. A small, tiny way in for Estrella Burgos.

But that's all the Dominican gets. His backhand goes awry in a decent rally and Nadal holds again.
