Despite the perceived wilderness years that United have been in since Alex Ferguson retired, they have continued to add to their trophy cabinet.

Jesse Lingard's extra-time winner saw United beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in the 2016 FA Cup final as Louis van Gaal ended his Old Trafford reign with a trophy.

Jose Mourinho added the League Cup and Europa League last season and the Portuguese is not used to finishing the season trophy-less.

For Spurs, a nice shiny trophy would represent progress under Mauricio Pochettino and a monkey off their back.

It's 10 years since they won the League Cup, 27 since their last FA Cup triumph and 57 since their last top-flight title.

Both teams *should* secure a top four spot this season.

Second-place United have a slightly higher chance as they are mathematically just a point away from achieving a Champions League place.

While Spurs are five clear of fifth-placed Chelsea with four games to go.

Both team were knocked out of Europe at the last-16 round, so the FA Cup offers their only chance of silverware this season.

The last time they won in a semi-final was a 3-1 victory over Arsenal in 1991, going on to beat Nottingham Forest in the final.

Tottenham are no longer the pushovers that Alex Ferguson used to dismiss with his infamous put down.

In fact, Spurs have finished above United in three of the four seasons since Ferguson retired.

Mauricio Pochettino can also boast a recent win over Jose Mourinho' side, with a 2-0 victory at Wembley back in January.

But history is not on their side in the quest for the FA Cup.
