The Austrian set up Jon Walters with a cut-back (blue square) and has been successful with 95.5% of his passes, the highest rate on the pitch. Only two of his 22 passes went astray (red squares) and he has been the game's most influential player so far.

Arsenal craft a nice move and could easily have put this game to bed. Theo Walcott is involved as they thread the ball from right to left, it is cut back to Alexis Sanchez seven yards out - but he takes a heavy touch and can't get a shot off.

In League Two, it's a role reversal for Carlisle, who after their midweek Capital One Cup heroics in taking Liverpool to penalties, are being held at home by Newport, the only winless side in the division. There's clearly something in the Windass genes, with midfielder Josh, the 21-year-old son of former Hull striker Dean, scoring his fifth goal of the season to help Accrington lead 2-0 at Crawley.

BBC Sport's Mark Mitchener at the Britannia Stadium: "Stoke are halfway towards their much-needed first Premier League win of the season while visitors Bournemouth rather lost their way for a spell after losing top scorer Callum Wilson to a serious-looking injury. Eddie Howe's side came more into the game in the last 5-10 minutes before the break - but nearly conceded a second in the 10th minute of stoppage time as Stoke, with only 10 men on the field, broke from a Cherries corner and Marko Arnautovic fired just wide."

If Sunderland are going to find a way back into this game, they need to find a way of getting near the United area. They have been penned back in their own half for most of the first 45 minutes (see graphic above showing average touches of both teams) and only managed 15 touches in the final third of the field (see below graphic on the right). United, who have spent most of the game camped outside the Sunderland box, have made significantly more (see below graphic on the left).

The table makes grim reading for the north east - and the Telegraph’s North East reporter Luke Edwards was on BBC Radio 5 live last night.

"There’s not been much to get optimistic about for Newcastle or Sunderland. It’s a very miserable time for both clubs. 

"The key difference is Sunderland expected a relegation battle but with Newcastle, Mike Ashley promised they’d have a go at things this season and there was positivity that something had changed. That’s vanished. 

"It’s made it worse because Newcastle fans thought this season was going to be different. But it’s worse than ever. There’s usually a honeymoon period but that hasn’t happened."

In the Championship, leaders Brighton have seen their advantage at Bolton halved by a Neil Danns goal after Dale Stephens and Jamie Murphy put Chris Hughton's side in control. Rotherham's bid to climb out of the bottom three has been boosted by Matt Derbyshire's goal as they lead 1-0 at Birmingham.
