Put your hands up for Dirk Kuyt! This game has extra significance for ex-Liverpool man Kuyt as he wins his 100th Netherlands cap today.

He made his international debut back in September 2004 against Liechtenstein and has been a regular fixture in the squad ever since.

Kuyt is playing at his third World Cup, and was also in the Netherlands squad for Euro 2008 and 2012. He is bidding for goal number 25 for the Oranje today - which could be a tougher-than-expected task. Kuyt is likely to line up at left wing-back.

23 June: Croatia 1-3 Mexico

And they booked a last-16 spot with a late flurry of goals against Croatia - which sent the Europeans home. Rafael Marquez headed in before Andres Guardado drove in a shot and Javier Hernandez nodded home to put them 3-0 up.

17 June: Brazil 0-0 Mexico

Mexico edged closer to the knockout stage by holding Brazil to a goalless draw. Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa produced an outstanding display to frustrate the host nation.

13 June: Mexico 1-0 Cameroon

The North Americans made a perfect start to their Group A campaign - eventually. After seeing two goals controversially wiped out, they finally edged past Cameroon through forward Oribe Peralta's strike.

23 June: Netherlands 2-0 Chile

And the Dutch clinched top spot in Group B after goals from Leroy Fer and Memphis Depay condemned Chile to the runners-up spot.

18 June: Australia 2-3 Netherlands

They secured a last-16 place after Memphis Depay's second-half winner saw off a plucky Australia side. Arjen Robben put the Dutch ahead, but Tim Cahill equalised with a stunning volley and Mile Jedinak's swung the game in Australia's favour. But Robin van Persie lashed home to level before Depay eliminated the Socceroos.

13 June: Spain 1-5 Netherlands

The Dutch stunned the world with a sensational second-half performance to annihilate reigning champions Spain. After Spain opened the scoring through Xabi Alonso's penalty, Robin van Persie equalised with a diving header just before half-time. But Arjen Robben's brace, Stefan de Vrij and another Van Persie goal sealed the thumping win.

"While we await the match, here is a bit of history for the day. The Dutch have a long association with Fortaleza. In fact they gave the city its name. Some 360 years ago, they attempted to colonise it but could only cling on for 30 years before being overthrown. In that time they did build Fort Schoonenburg, the structure which gives this part of Brazil its name. If you walk along the beachfront you will see more than a few bars called "O Holandes Voador" (The Flying Dutchman)."

Andy Darnes: I think Mexico have a chance this year. The three at the back with wing backs is giving the big teams trouble, and with someone like Rafael Marquez at the back they're hard to break down. They also have quality players such as Giovani Dos Santos, Javier Hernandez, Oribe Peralta and Andres Guardado looking to prove themselves on the world stage, and they're doing a good job so far!

Estadio Castelao, Fortaleza

Opened: 1973 (reopened in January 2013).

Altitude: Sea level.

Climate: Daily temperatures peak at around 30C throughout the year, although the city sometimes benefits from a sea breeze. Occasional rain showers are not uncommon in June.

Where is it?: A 'fortress' port on the north-east coast of Brazil, it has 16 miles of beaches.

Background: The renovation of the Estadio Castelao was completed on time and within budget, making the stadium the first World Cup venue to be declared ready. Work began in March 2011, and cost 518m reais (approximately £167m).

The city of Fortaleza sits on Brazil's north-east coast, and is a popular tourist destination because of its beaches. The new Castelao aims to minimise the impact of the heat on players and spectators.

While Louis van Gaal worries about wilting in the Fortaleza heat, Mexican counterpart Miguel Herrera is hoping the conditions can favour his side.

"The heat and humidity affects both teams but we might adapt better because we play in the same conditions at some places in Mexico," he says.

Both sets of players are glugging down the water as they 'warm up' on the Fortaleza pitch. Mexico striker Giovani Dos Santos is already drenched in sweat, which means Ron Vlaar will probably be looking like he's just stepped out of the shower.

Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal says he hopes Fifa will allow drinks breaks during Sunday's last-16 clash against Mexico in Fortaleza's hot and humid Arena Castelao.

Tests the Dutch conducted before the tournament show some players lose up to four litres of fluid during a match.

"Can you imagine that?" said Van Gaal. "That has to be replenished because otherwise you start hallucinating. "Drinks will be along the sidelines if Fifa doesn't take care of it."
