Can Cundy keep his cool?published at 20:30 BST 9 September 2016

    Paralympic Track Cycling

Before the powerlifting finishes, we'll turn our attention to the veledrome.

Four years ago in London Jody Cundy was disqualified in the same event he races in tonight - the men's C4-5 1km race.

Cundy completely lost his temper in an expletive rant after his wheel slipped at the start and was denied the opportunity for a restart.

Will things run smoothly tonight for him?

  2. What is powerlifting?published at 20:26 BST 9 September 2016

Powerlifting is a bench press competition where men and women in 10 different weight classes attempt to lift the heaviest weight possible.

Athletes may choose to have a spotter or they must press and hold the weight before placing it back on the rack when signalled to by the judges.

In the event of a tie, medals are decided by the athlete who weighs the lightest and lifts the joint heaviest weight

A terrific start in the men's -59kg powerlifting for Britain's Ali Jawad.

He set a Paralympic record with his first lift of 190kg - although that's been surpassed by Egypt's Sherif Oman.

Oman has the world record of 210.5kg, so expect some massive lifting in the race for gold.

T44 competitor Reid, 31, jumped 5.64m but was beaten by France's Marie-Amelie le Fur, who set a new world record of 5.83m.

Newson, 24, lifted 102kg in the -45kg category.

Prescott, competing in the F32 category, threw 19.77m to finish ahead of team-mate Abbie Hunnisett, who managed 19m.

  6. And it continues...published at 20:12 BST 9 September 2016

The British gold rush has no sign of abating either.

ParalympicsGB took their gold tally to six earlier today - and 15 overall - as Para-cyclist Sophie Thornhill and pilot Helen Scott won the women's B 1,000m time trial.

  7. GB's Gold Rushpublished at 20:08 BST 9 September 2016

What a glorious start it was for ParalympicsGB on day one.

Cyclist Dame Sarah Storey set a new world record in qualifying before clinching her 12th gold medal to overtake Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson as Britain's most successful female Paralympian.

Megan Giglia, who had a stroke in 2013 before taking up cycling, kick started the golden surge as she charged to victory in the women's C1-3 pursuit.

Storey and Giglia were joined on the Rio roll of honour by Steve Bate and Adam Duggleby, who celebrated their triumph with their families as they grasped gold in the B1 pursuit for the visually impaired class.

In the pool,  Bethany Firth set a new world record as she stormed to gold in the S14 100m backstroke, with Ollie Hynd producing a similar performance as he dominated the men's S8 400m freestyle.

And just missing out on stepping to the top of the podium were Jon Fox, Steph Millward & Harriet Lee while Jess Jane Applegate and Andrew Mullen got bronze. Let's hope the gold rush continues!
