We have (takes a deep breath) Oliver Hynd and Josef Craig going for swimming gold in the men's 400m freestyle S8 final.

At the same time, 2012 gold medallist Jonnie Peacock starts his campaign on the track in the men's 100m T44 heats and Steve Bate and pilot Adam Duggleby race for gold in the men's B 4,000m individual pursuit cycling final.

"To go quicker than London after having my daughter Louisa is the icing on the cake.

"You can never underestimate anyone on the other side of the track. It's amazing and I don't think it will sink for a very long time."

What a fantastic and amazing performance by Sarah Storey. That has to go down as one of the best performances in Paralympic history.

I knew that she had it in the bag and it was just a question of how quickly she could catch Crystal, who you have to give credit to for her silver medal. It was phenomenal from Sarah, though.

Dame Sarah Storey is the most successful female British Paralympian of all time. And she does it in style.

After only 1,375m of a 3,000m race, she catches and passes fellow Briton Crystal Lane, who has to settle for a silver medal.

Storey, who was born without a left hand, has now won 12 Paralympic gold medals - five in swimming and seven in cycling. Incredible.

We are approaching the Sarah Storey versus Crystal Lane final. And it is not just the competitors that are nervous.

Sarah Storey's husband Barney, speaking to 5 live: "It's far worse watching than competing. I don't think anything is a formality in sport. You have to take each stage at a time.

"Hopefully at the end of that will be a gold medal. It's about concentrating on the process rather than the outcome."

  10. Cycling classification breakdownpublished at 21:18 BST 8 September 2016

    What do the numbers mean?

Athletes in track cycling often have a mild physical impairment such as cerebral palsy or the loss of a limb.

Visually impaired athletes also compete but they ride tandem bikes that are steered by fully sighted pilots.

Athletes are given a number between 1 and 5 with 1 being the most affected by their impairment and athletes given a 5 are the least affected e.g. the loss of a hand like Dame Sarah Storey.

Megan Giglia, speaking to 5 live: "I just decided I had to go all out and I just wanted to go for gold. In 2012 I was a sports coach and I don't remember the Paralympics because I was fully able bodied then so it just passed me by.

"My life changed when I had a stroke and I created a new version of me - Megan the second - and cycling became a way of rehabilitation before it something more. I have created a whole new life for myself.

"I always loved sports and that remained the same after my stroke. It's spiraled into more from there. I couldn't coach properly so I thought about competing and knew I could just get keep getting better and better."

'Storey is an icon of the sport'published at 21:06 BST 8 September 2016

    Mark Colbourne
Paralympic cycling gold medal winner on BBC Radio 5 live

It’s fantastic to see Crystal Lane achieve her dream of getting to a Paralympic final and come up against Dame Sarah Storey in an all-GB final in the pursuit.

Four or five weeks ago Crystal wasn’t in the squad but because of Russia being banned from the Games she got a late call-up and will now definitely come away with a medal.

There’s not much more you can say about Sarah. She is a real icon of the sport and a Paralympic legend and it’s hard to believe she has almost 25 years of experience at the elite level.

Storey, 38, who posted a world record time of three minutes 31.394 seconds in her heat earlier, is chasing a record 12th Paralympic gold medal in the C5 3000m individual pursuit final.

Only a team-mate is going to be able to stop Dame Sarah Storey from achieving British Paralympic history.

She is up against a fellow Britain as she races Crystal Lane. However, Lane may well not have been competing at all if it was not for Storey.

Lane only took up cycling in 2009 after being inspired by Storey's exploits in Beijing in 2008, when she won two gold medals.

Sir Philip Craven can be a very proud man tonight.

It has certainly been a tough time for the International Paralympic Committee president, who has faced challenge after challenge to make sure the Paralympics would go ahead, with as many nations and competitors in Rio as possible.

In an interview with BBC Sport, he tells how the Rio Games will be a success and that no eligible countries will be missing after a stressful period where funding problems looked like causing major disruption.

"These are the people's games and we will have a fabulous time," he says.
