All eyes locked to the big screen as England’s Jess Learmonth and Australia’s Ashleigh Gentle are set for a big duel on the run.

There's no threat from behind here now so these two need to work together and stay out of trouble now as they approach the run. The Canadians and New Zealanders behind are not making any in-roads.

Jess Learmonth is going to have to have the run of her life if she is going to stay with Ashleigh Gentle until the end.

Maybe Jess Learnmonth pushed too hard on the swim? Australia's Ashleigh Gentle has caught up with Learmonth on the bike. They're about to go into their final transition alongside each other.

That was a messy fight but Scotland's Stephen Newns has scrapped his way into the quarter-finals with a unanimous points victory over Curlun Richardson of Anguilla.

A tough, tough last round from 19-year-old Richardson who knew he had to find a knockout, but Newns stayed strong and all five judges scored him the winner.

How good was that?! Having gone into her leg dead level with Australia, Jess Learmonth has stretched out a lead of 15 seconds after the swim.

New Zealand are third out of the water. Canada and Wales are another 13 seconds behind in fourth and fifth.

Four years ago in Glasgow Tesni Evans made it to the last 16 of the Women’s Singles - today the Welsh Champion is in the Quarterfinals and aiming for a chance to challenge for a medal.

She’s up against tough opposition - world number seven and top seed England’s Laura Massaro.

Either way there will be a home nation in the last four!

Jonny Brownlee tags Jess Learmonth and it's the silver medallist from the women's event now in the water for England.

She has started this swim really well. Learnmonth has moved clear of her Australian rival. Any sort of lead Learmonth can hand over to Alistair Brownlee could be crucial.

That was an impressive, impressive leg from Jonny Brownlee. I know it's only a short distance that he's covered there but he really did look like the Jonny Brownlee of old.

Scotland lost 1-0 to Canada earlier this morning in a tight match in pool A.

Here are the highlights if you couldn't keep your eyes open for that one.

Jonny Brownlee and Matt Hauser are still neck and neck at the front of this triathlon. They've ditched their bikes and now have a 1500m run ahead before their work is done.

Wales have dropped back a little into fourth place. Scotland are out of contention.

Three rounds of three minutes for Scottish boxer Stephen Newns to progress to the quarter-finals.

He's fighting Curlun Richardson of Anguilla, who's been forced to prepare for the Games in Trinidad and Tobago after his training facilities were destroyed by hurricane Irma.

First up on the track today at the Anna Meares velodrome in Brisbane is the men's sprint qualifying.

No medals will be decided, and there's not even a semi-final up for grabs. This one's all about determining the seedings for the knockout stage.

Scotland's Callum Skinner and Jack Carlin, England's Joe Trueman, Ryan Owens and Philip Hindes and Welshman Lewis Oliva go in that.

England's 2014 silver medallist Laura Massaro takes on Wales' Tesni Evans, who beat Massaro in December's World Championships, and then again in February when she became the first Welsh player to win the British title

England's five second lead has evaporated as Jonny Brownlee comes out of the water. Australia's Matt Hauser has closed the gap impressively.

This team triathlon is all action. It's much more fast-paced than the already exciting individual triathlon.

Bronwlee is away on the bike. He's on the wheel of Hauser. It looks like a straight fight between England and Australia for gold. Their lead is 30 seconds now. Wales, Canada and New Zealand are in a three-man group battling for bronze.

Jonny Brownlee is up next for England. Vicky Holland has put in a really good leg on foot and hands over to her team-mate with a five second lead.

After a disappointing individual performance Wales' Non Stanford is bidding for a result here. She is racing this first leg for her team.

The conditions are far better than in the men's race for this cycle. A couple of days ago the roads were soaking wet and slippery after some heavy rain but today it's bright blue sky. There's a bit of wind around though which will affect the swim.

Wales' Stanford comes into the second transition - the transition between cycle and run - in third place but 26 seconds behind Australia and England who are out in front.

Sarah Jane-Perry wins a huge rally and she’s close now. She screams “come on” after it. There’s some beef on the court in this as she flashes with Australia’s Donna Urquhart over decisions throughout.

But she keeps her head and gets the job done, 11-5 in the final game for a 3-1 progress to the semi-finals.

The next boxer into the ring is Scottish champion Stephen Newns who came through a tough test on Thursday and now faces Curlun Richardson of Antigua at 04:32 BST.

Then at 05:02, Northern Ireland's Aidan Walsh takes on Pakistan's Gul Zaib, with both seeking to secure a quarter-final place.
