Ever wondered what Scotland assistant manager Mark McGhee might look like with his face superimposed over Debbie McGee and stood next to Paul Daniels? Well wonder no more...

BBC Sport presenter Jacqui Oatley has been digging through some of her old programmes and stumbled upon this, posting on Twitter:, external "Mark McGhee as you may (possibly) never have seen him before."

BBC Radio Derby understands Derby County and Blackburn are in talks over a loan move for striker Leon Best. The 27-year-old has expressed his desire to move to Derby.

Front page of Spanish daily Marca, external says goalkeeper Diego Lopez is to leave Real Madrid following the arrival of Keylor Navas. The newspaper says Monaco is Lopez's most likely destination, but that he could leave for Chelsea, if Petr Cech is sold to Paris St-Germain.

Even later on Thursday, Tottenham agreed to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Eric Dier for £4m, subject to a medical.

The England Under-21 international, who was born in Cheltenham but moved to Portugal as a child, has made 30 appearances for the Lisbon club.

Dier, 20, was unwilling to sign a new contract with Sporting, with Spurs activating a 5m euro clause. He will become Spurs' third summer signing after Ben Davies and Michel Vorm from Swansea.

In case you missed this on Thursday evening, West Ham have signed Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old had been linked with several Premier League clubs, but opted for the Hammers.

"I'm clearly seen as a big part of things here and hopefully I can prove my worth because it is an important year for me," Jenkinson says.

Encouraging all his players to speak English and making players chat to each other at meal times, Louis van Gaal is certainly looking to make his mark behind the scenes at Manchester United.

He is, of course, not the first manager to try different ways of improving his squad's performances. Paolo Di Canio infamously banned his players from eating tomato sauce when he was in charge of Sunderland, while Blackpool boss Jose Riga is a big fan of 'brain training', which encourages players to train their minds as well as their bodies.

Martin Allen, nicknamed Mad Dog, once took his Gillingham players to train under Marble Arch in London.

Hull Citymade history on Thursday as Steve Bruce's side played their first ever game in Europe, drawing with AS Trencin in Slovakiin in the first leg of the Europa League third qualifying round.

Arsenal have been told transfer target Juan Quintero, 21, will only be allowed to leave Porto if the Colombian midfielder's £32m release clause is activated. (Daily Express)

Manchester United are closing in on a £20m move for Germany World Cup winner Mats Hummels, 25, with Borussia Dortmund hoping to replace the defender with Liverpool's 21-year-old Tiago Ilori in a loan deal. (Daily Mirror)

Liverpool are eyeing a double deal for Spanish defenders Alberto Moreno, 22, of Sevilla and Javier Manquillo, 20, of Atletico Madrid. (Daily Star)

The Women's Rugby World Cup gets under way on Friday when holders New Zealand take on Kazakhstan in France at 12:00 BST.

The Black Ferns have won the last four tournaments and are favourites to lift the trophy again at the final in Paris.

Wales and Ireland will compete in the 12-nation event, with England, runners up at the last tournament in 2010, hoping to go one better.

Friday's schedule: New Zealand v Kazakhstan (12:00 BST), Canada v Spain (14:00), Australia v South Africa (15:45), USA v Ireland (16:00), England v Samoa (17:00), France v Wales (20:45).

Away from football, England gymnasts Max Whitlock and Claudia Fragapane both won their third Commonwealth Games gold medals with individual final success on Thursday.

After taking gold in the all-round and team competitions, Whitlock, 21, won the men's floor final and Fragapane, 16, the vault.

Whitlock added a silver from the pommel horse final which was won by Scotland's Daniel Keatings with Louis Smith third.

According to some of today's newspapers,, external Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been told he must achieve a top-four finish, and the Dutchman is certainly leaving nothing to chance.

As well as installing cameras pitchside at Manchester United's training complex, the former Netherlands boss has ordered his players to speak English to each other, while rectangular tables have been replaced by circular ones at meal times to encourage conversation.

"I think it is a lot more detailed at the training ground (now)," United defender Johnny Evans says. "They have spent thousands on it and a few of the lads have seen HD cameras around the pitch. I think a lot of teams use it but we are looking into it in quite a lot of detail."

Watch out Manchester United players, Louis van Gaal is watching.

The Dutchman has installed video cameras all around the club's training complex to watch every single kick, check who is comfortable and who is struggling and even observe what each player's expression is like.

No stone is being left unturned in Van Gaal's bid to guide United to a top-four finish this season, but only time will tell if his methods will ultimately pay dividends.

It is not just on the training pitch Van Gaal is looking oversee improvements, but also in the squad itself. Just like pretty much every other manager in world football, Van Gaal will still be searching for the players he believes will give his side the best chance of success this season.
