George Russell, I don't think he's been on the podium here before. More than that, he just wants to get his head down. He really needs to continue the momentum from last weekend. He has got to get a grip on this 40-point gap. Kimi Antonelli seems to be the type of driver where nothing fazes him.
George Russell is next to cross the line and while he beats Australian Oscar Piastri's soft-tyre marker, he's no match for Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli, who flies to the top of the timesheets with a 1:29.473, nearly half a second quicker than Russell.
Liam Lawson wants to know what Audi's Nico Hulkenberg is playing at, as the Racing Bulls driver was gearing up for a push lap and feels the German ruined his preparations. Lawson has recovered from that tussle with Hulkenberg and has gone third on the board on the medium compound.
It's time for some soft tyres to be bolted on now with 10 minutes remaining of this sole practice session.
How will the back of the field perform this weekend? Aston Martin are based right on the doorstep at Silverstone and would love to collect some points on home soil. However, Fernando Alonso said the iconic Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel section of the track could be like "a charging station" under the new regulations, so we'll see what the two-time world champion has to say when he gets out of the car after first practice.
Over at Cadillac, Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez were out of the race in Austria with only a handful of laps on the board. Will the American team, who have got celebrations going on for the fourth of July, suffer with reliability issues again this weekend?
Mexican Perez is actually 15th on the timesheets at the moment, so a positive start on his side of the garage.
Oscar Piastri, who had an eventful Silverstone last year with that 10-second time penalty, has just had quite a big spin in his McLaren around Chapel. The Australian is asked if he is OK by his engineer. He is, but he adds that his tyres are now dead.
Over at Alpine, Pierre Gasly informs his pit wall the car is feeling unpredictable before heading into sprint qualifying later this afternoon.
Barcelona produced the first all-British podium - Lewis Hamilton, George Russell and Lando Norris - in 50-odd years last month, so can they be repeated at Silverstone this weekend?
The first two places so far on the timehseets are occupied by an Italian, Kimi Antonelli, and a Frenchman, Isack Hadjar, with Russell currently third, two tenths off title leader Antonelli's quckest time.
Charles Leclerc has moved himself up the order following his latest lap on the hard compound but his Ferrari team-mate Hamilton has beaten Antonelli by 0.256 seconds to lead this first practice session with a 1:30.521 on the hard rubber.
The harvesting is embarrassing. There is no other word for it. It is making the challenge of Copse, Maggots and Becketts into a farce.
It needs to change.

A street circuit in London would be good but this is the best track on the F1 calendar by far. Its only challenger is Interlagos.
Village is catching a few drivers out in this first practice. Lando Norris was first to twitch at the corner and now Kimi Antonelli and Charles Leclerc have been added to the list. Is the wind playing its part? Probably.
Lewis Hamilton, aiming for a 10th British Grand Prix victory this weekend, improves to go fourth on the timesheets in this one and only practice session at Silverstone. His marker is 0.424 seconds away from teenager Kimi Antonelli's top time so far.
Watching the highlights of last year's race - and I have a dreadful memory recall FYI - I had forgotten how many talking points there were - and not just Nico Hulkenberg's first F1 podium and Lando Norris' maiden home win.
Back to the present day and Norris is driving past his very own 'Landostand', packed with fans of all ages. If you're there, send us a pic using the 'get involved' tab.
One thing Lewis Hamilton highlighted during his Thursday chat with the media was Ferrari's struggles on the straights during last week's Austrian Grand Prix, saying the team were losing four tenths a lap, which he added doesn't bode well for Silverstone. Despite this, Hamilton still managed to entertain us with some great battling early doors with Max Verstappen in Spielberg - and he passed team-mate Charles Leclerc for second spot.
At the moment, the Scuderia drivers are sixth and seventh on the timesheets, as championship leader Kimi Antonelli goes top with a 1:30.777 on the hards, just under two tenths better than the Red Bull of Isack Hadjar.
Mercedes team-mate George Russell has slotted into third, 0.209 seconds off Antonelli's best time.
Lando Norris has a slight wobble at Turn Three in the McLaren, which is running a special white/silver livery this weekend. The reigning world champion said the pace of the car is still behind the leaders after ending his day in Spielberg in seventh place.
Norris' team-mate Oscar Piastri is above him now in the championship, and he's also second on the timessheets, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen going top on his latest flying lap on the hards.
But Isack Hadjar banks his second stay at the top with a 1:30.969 on the hard rubber, which is just a touch quicker than title leader Kimi Antonelli in second.
Interesting weekend coming up, on all levels, and the sun is shining.
All the best to the Brits, but more than that, let's hope it's one for the history books for all the right reasons.
Charlie
With the complexities around energy management at this circuit, I suspect teams will learn about car behaviour and set-up during the sprint, so the Sunday race may be very different to the sprint.
If you watching the coverage of the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend you will have seen the brand new drone shot that followed the action during the race. I'm not sure if we will be seeing it again at Silverstone, but did you like it?
Mercedes once again are the favourites heading into a grand prix in 2026 but will the home advantage suit George Russell over his team-mate Kimi Antonelli? The Italian teenager had a few scrappy opening laps in Spielberg but still finished on the podium in third place, keeping him in control of the title fight by 40 points.
Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, said Austria was a bit of a reality check for Ferrari following his victory in Barcelona. The seven-time world champion has shifted down to third after Russell's win but he's quickest on track in the early stages of this session with a 1:31.877 on the hard compound.

Lewis Hamilton is marking his 20th British Grand Prix this year but for rookie Arvid Lindblad, 2026 will be his first taste of Silverstone in front of a home crowd as a Formula 1 driver.
"I remember being here in 2013 when I was five (cue raised eyebrows from Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas next to Lindblad in the news conference) and sitting in Maggotts and Becketts with my dad, and I was watching the cars go past and I was really sort of learning about my love for the sport and asking him questions, you know, 'is it possible to be there one day? Could that be me?'"
Well, today it is you, Arvid. And you also enters the record books this weekend as the first British teenager to take part in this famous race.
The 18-year-old finished in the top 10 in Spielberg to collect double points for Racng Bulls along with team-mate Liam Lawson. Lindblad is 13th in the championship in his debut season, two points off Alpine's Franco Colapinto and four points away from fellow Brit Ollie Bearman over at Haas.

I absolutely love this circuit. It's old school with high-speed challenges like Maggots and Becketts, but also low-speed challenges like Turn Three and Turn Four. In terms of car set-up, it's a very difficult compromise for the teams.
What is the Silverstone weather forecast?published at 12:32 BST

The UK was melting last week in the heatwave and while the toasty temperatures have cooled slightly, the British Grand Prix is set to be dry all weekend this year.
There is cloud around and a gentle to moderate breeze but overall, if you're heading to Silverstone, pack your sunglasses, shorts and maybe a light jacket.
And don't forget, you can send us pictures along with your messages now. Just select the 'get involved' button on the live page and show us where you're sitting, where you're camping, if you spot any drivers etc.
Lewis Hamilton was first in the queue to leave the pit lane - and the fans in the stands are loving it. The Ferrari driver is soaking up the cheers on a set of hard tyres.
