Dan Ndoye stretches to poke the ball to Ruben Vargas on the left of the Algeria box but the winger gets a rush of blood to the head and fizzes a cross-shot across the face of goal from an angle and it flies all the way for throw-in.

Rafik Belghali does well to nick the ball off Johan Manzambi as he tries to jink his way past him on the left of the Algeria box and then eases the pressure by winning a throw.

It's right into the path of Riyad Mahrez who really should do better. He's arriving unchallenged, he's such a good technician.
I think it comes off his heel. A proper sidefoot connection from Mahrez and it sends it to the right of the goalkeeper.

Good chance for a quick reply as Rafik Belghali is freed down the right by a lovely ball and fires in a brilliant low cut-back which is perfect for Riyad Mahrez, running in, only for the former Leicester and Man City title-winner to fluff his connection and see his effort blocked.

That's all it's taken Dan Ndoye of Nottingham Forest to give Algeria a mountain to climb.
Algeria twice make a real hash of clearing a cross from the right from Denis Zakaria and the ball drops to Ndoye on the edge of the box to steady himself and steer a low shot across goal and into the bottom corner past Luca Zidane.
A nightmare start to the half for Algeria. Dreamland tor the Swiss.

Why is no one talking about how bad Zidane is as a goalkeeper!? He is terrible. Positioning for the Swiss goal was dreadful. I feel like he is only in the team because of who his dad is.

Switzerland have not lost any of their past five World Cup matches when leading at halftime.
However, they drew the last two of those, in 2018 against Costa Rica and against Qatar in the opening game of this tournament.

It has been a good first half, I think it's been quite a tight first half.
Switzerland have done well in terms of keeping their shape, when they broke forward they've looked dangerous and created opportunities.
Algeria have had those chances and just haven't found that bit of quality in front of goal. It really wouldn't surprise me if they make changes in the second half, add that focal point up top.

Johan Manzambi is 20 and has frightening pace, which he used to great effect on the break, racing away from the defence on the break, ghosting inside along the byline then applying a perfect touch back for Breel Embolo to tuck home.
Every time he's had the ball since Algerian players look worried, and the fans get off their seats.
It's the kind of performance in a World Cup which could change his life.

So far, so good for Switzerland.
They had to weather some early pressure as Algeria began very brightly but Johan Manzambi changed the game with a blistering run down the left and a brilliant cut-back for Breel Embolo to turn in from close range after just 10 minutes.
The goal seemed to knock the confidence of Algeria and the Swiss spurned a couple of half-chances after that, though the Fennec Foxes finished the half on top.

The ball is worked in from the Algeria right and drops to Ibrahim Maza but he can only snatch at his shot and drag it tamely wide of Gregor Kobel's left-hand post.

Breel Embolo and Dan Ndoye scored to seal Switzerland's first World Cup knockout stage win since 1938 as they comfortably beat Algeria to book a last-16 place.
The Swiss took an early lead in Vancouver after some brilliant wing play from Freiburg's Johan Manzambi, who beat his man before delivering a lovely cutback for Rennes' forward Embolo to turn home in the 10th minute.
Nottingham Forest winger Ndoye then doubled their lead just 46 seconds after the half-time break with a fine finish inside the area.
It was the first time Switzerland scored more than one goal in a World Cup knockout game since a 7-5 defeat by Austria in the 1954 quarter-finals.
Algeria - who were in search of their first win in the knockout stages - had a decent spell before the break - but with their best opportunity, Fares Chaibi hit a timid shot which Switzerland goalkeeper Gregor Kobel easily saved, and they rarely threatened again.
Not since they beat Germany in the 1938 World Cup last-16 - before the introduction of group stages - had Switzerland won a knockout game but they easily progressed here.
Murat Yakin's side had a glorious opportunity for a third late on when Fabian Rieder had a clear chance at the back post with the goal at his mercy but he mishit the ball and it went towards a grateful Algeria goalkeeper Luca Zidane, who had appeared beaten.
Switzerland have now reached the last 16 of the World Cup for the fourth successive tournament, and they will face the winner of Colombia and Ghana on 7 July at 21:00 BST at BC Place Vancouver.
Manzambi's 'brilliant' run sets up Embolo for opening goal
This was Granit Xhaka's 150th cap for his country and there is no doubt about the importance of the Sunderland midfielder to this Switzerland side.
The captain was excellent here as Algeria barely laid a glove on a Swiss side who cruised into the next round.
But while Xhaka, 33, brings experience, Manzambi brings excitement.
His run to set up the opening goal was magnificent as he twisted and turned to beat Algeria defender Aissa Mandi before giving Embolo the easiest of finishes as he also took goalkeeper Zidane out of the equation with the cutback.
Having scored three in the group stages, this was his second assist of the tournament. According to Opta, he is the first Swiss player to be directly involved in five goals at a World Cup since detailed data collection began in 1966.
At 20 years and 261 days old, he is also is the youngest player to reach that tally for any nation since 1966.
There may be more to come but Manzambi may have put himself in the shop window for some of Europe's big clubs - not that Bundesliga club Freiburg will want to lose such an exciting young winger.
