Manchester City have picked up from where they left off in the first half - and they quickly get their rewards after the break.

It feels like the air has been let out of St James' Park.

Wrexham

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson speaking to BBC Sport: "I'm very pleased with the way we acquitted ourselves tonight. We showed a lot of good aspects to our play and played some great football. We weren't just coming here to stop Chelsea - we believe we can play.

"We were frustrated not to come in at half-time ahead. The lads have given a lot tonight and to play extra time with 10-men is really hard.

"We wanted to have a real go in the second period and we had some great chances. We had moments even with 10 men and the lads have to take a lot of credit tonight."

On George Dobson's red card: "In the second half I think we were the better team and I was confident we were going to win. The referee gave a yellow. I'm not sure of the rules, it's the first time we've had VAR and it has to be clear and obvious to overturn it. I think the referee could have just kept it at a yellow.

"I said at the break in extra time there are still going to be chances for us. Unfortunately we didn't take one but we have to take a lot of heart from that performance.

"It's been a great cup run. Tonight was a great spectacle and we were competitive against a very good side. We will take a lot of positives from it."

Wrexham defender Callum Doyle, speaking to BBC Sport: "It is a tough one to take against a top side. I thought we did really well until the last part of the game. The sending off didn't help us.

On his goal: "Happened so fast. Josh [Windass] is fuming that I took it. It was just a little flick and it paid off!

"It is a big test, and they're a big side in the big leagues, and it is a good test for us against top players. We have another game on Tuesday, so we have to keep going."

On aiming from promotion to the Premier League: "Hopefully, that is the target, but we have just got to stick at it."

Chelsea

Chelsea goalscorer Alejandro Garnacho, speaking to BBC One: "Incredible win. I think it was one of the hardest games of the season so far.

"We are proud, and we are in the next round. I think it was a great goal and a great pass from Dário [Essugo]. I am really happy. These games are different.

"You have to fight and the opposition played really good."

Newcastle were sensational for that opening 20 minutes. They had two or three glorious opportunities before they did get that goal from Barnes.

City came into it as you'd expect and as that half was drawing to a close, their midfield really started to dominate. Savinho and Nunes were the catalysts for most opportunities.

That was hard for Chelsea. Cup competitions are about getting through to the next round, even if you haven't played well. This Wrexham team have pushed them all the way and they have given them an incredibly tough night.

One of the strangest finishes I've ever seen, it just hits him in the shins.

The ball fizzes across the box with pace and literally just hits Savinho and it trickles over the line.

This is exactly how close Wrexham came to taking Chelsea to penalties with 10-men.

Wrexham were more than a match for Chelsea, twice taking the lead, and still had huge chances after being reduced to 10 men.

They were inches away from levelling at 3-3, when Lewis Brunt was found to have headed in from an offside position.

All in all, a real FA Cup treat. Reaction to come.
