It is fair to say this game has more goals in it. In the first 20 minutes, Aston Villa were the dominant side.

The change for Villa with Ezri Konsa coming off helped Tottenham. They have come into the game a lot more with Son Heung-min having that huge opportunity to equalise.

Since then, it's felt a little bit edgy. Both sides have had moments, but nothing much either side can capitalise on.

Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot speaking to ITV: "Great game from Plymouth. Good game plan. They deserve all credit for the performance. We were not having a very good day and a result like this is the outcome.

"I can't say the boys didn't fight because they were for 100 minutes or so. Both teams hardly created any chance and the game was decided by penalty. In such games, it is up to one moment and that went for them. They played a good game and deserved it.

"I think [the Liverpool players] are able to do better. Plymouth have a system and a way of playing where it is quite hard to create chances against. They were really aggressive when we had the ball. We expected the players to play a better game than this but we have to give credit to Plymouth as well.

"The players kept on fighting till the last moment. It wasn't a work rate problem. They worked really hard but they could not find any openings and chances. We just have to keep doing the same with the same work rate.

"It hurts everyone associated with Liverpool - fans, me and the players. We all wanted to be in the FA Cup and compete for as long as possible. It is a setback."

Plymouth Argyle

Plymouth Argyle goalscorer Ryan Hardie speaking to BBC Sport: "We have written ourselves in Argyle's history. It's the biggest team in the world at the minute, it will go down in the club's history.

"It was the longest nine minutes [of stoppage time] ever. It felt like the clock wasn't going down. Conor [Hazard] rescued us at the end. That's why he's there, I'm delighted for him."

On his penalty: "You pick your side and commit. I have been practicing, you have to commit and luckily the keeper went the wrong way.

"The full focus now has to go on Wednesday in the league but we'll have an eye on the draw and hopefully we get another one [Premier League side] and we can go again."

Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot told BBC Sport: "It took a long time before we created our first chance. That's down to them, they defended really well. A penalty which was the correct decision led to the fact we lose.

"There were not many young players in the team. Most of them, everyone is constantly telling us - and I agree with them - that we have a strong squad. These players, they help us when they come from the bench.

"That's not an excuse that the starters were not here. These players should be able to win a game like this. But we knew it would be a difficult game because of their playing style."

Plymouth Argyle

Plymouth Argyle manager Miron Muslic speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a magical day for us. Playing in the most famous cup in the world, against Liverpool, it is big already. To win this game is something that will remain forever a part of this club and history and the lads deserve it."

On the club's new signings settling in quickly: "It was never about signing players as soon as possible, it was about signing the right players. We have managed to do that, that was the plan. In the end we deserved to reach the next round.

"We are very much looking forward to the next challenge. Hopefully it can be another home match. The next game is the most important and on Wednesday [against Millwall in the Championship] we have to go again.

"I'm so happy with this penalty [Ryan Hardie] scored today and I will keep this forever in my heart. We have created momentum over the past three weeks and we have to move on.

"This is the biggest moment in my career so far. Hopefully, by the summer, I will have another big moment in my career when we stay up."

Tottenham's exciting forward signing Mathys Tel is having a tough start to life in English football.

After a difficult debut at Anfield, where Liverpool dominated in a 4-0 Carabao Cup victory on Thursday, he has not had many touches of the ball near Villa's goal.

But when he has had the ball in midfield, he has looked tidy enough.

Tel will hope that Spurs can mount a bit more offence in the second half to show off his skillset.

Villa have been wasteful in front of goal and that may come back to haunt them. Donyell Malen is the latest to have a go, but can only shoot wide when well placed.

Tottenham haven't given their fans too much to be excited about, but they will be happy, nonetheless, to be back in it.

It had felt in that first 20-25 minutes that Aston Villa were very much on the ascendancy. Perhaps the Villa fans going a bit quiet have helped Spurs.

Will we see Marcus Rashford make his Villa debut later on? This looks the sort of game where he could make a massive impact given how often Villa are charging at the Spurs defence.
