    Arsenal v Brighton (19:45 GMT)

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports about Max Dowman becoming Arsenal's youngest ever starter: "I think he was expecting it. He's been around now for a few months with us and we think it's the right context, right opportunity, surrounded very much by senior players. We hope he can cope with that in the way he has been doing in the last few months."

I just hope Anfield doesn't turn negative when Palace go a couple of goals up. I can foresee a few empty seats before the final whistle!

I notice every time I come to Anfield, the Diogo Jota song 20 minutes in, goes up and there is always a five-minute spell where the tempo drops.

The players hear that song and their mind will wonder to one of their friends and a close colleague.

    That can't be easy.

Liverpool's starting line-up includes three teenagers - hugely exciting 17-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha, and 18-year-old midfielders Trey Nyoni and Kieran Morrison.

There are a further five teenagers on the bench, with no-one older than 21, while Crystal Palace have top scorer Jean-Philippe Mateta among their replacements if needed.

Those Liverpool players given the evening off include Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz, Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike.

Will Slot's line-up gamble pay off or will a strong-looking Palace side move into the last eight of the Carabao Cup for a second successive season?

Max Dowman's start tonight is further reward for his start to this season.

The 15-year-old was one of Arsenal's most dangerous players on the senior team's season tour of Asia winning penalties against Newcastle and Villarreal.

He then made his Premier League debut against Leeds at home and won a penalty in that match too.

Mikel Arteta has spoke glowingly about his talent and even had enough faith in Dowman to bring him on away at Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League.

The one thing Oliver Glasner will want to do is win another trophy.

There is no better feeling than taking a team to Wembley and winning a trophy.

They know they have the pedigree and firepower [to beat Liverpool].

No club has had more success in English football's League Cup than 10-time winners Liverpool.

Crystal Palace have never reached the final of this competition, losing in the semi-finals on four occasions, most recently in 2001 - although they had never won the FA Cup or Community Shield before and have picked up both in a six-month golden spell in the club's history.

Against an inexperienced and youthful Liverpool side, Palace will fancy their chances of claiming a third victory over Slot’s team.

City supporter here, hoping Swansea make that noise they've been promising. Truly good luck to them tonight, at the least if we lose there's a possibility of another Welsh derby in the next round. Glad to see some of our returning players getting starts, that's crucial for the season.

The Swansea manager seems to have no interest in this tie, looking at their team selection. A slight on the fans attending the game tonight.

Swansea City v Manchester City: Bersant Celina scores stunning team goal in FA Cup tie

A little more of this would not go amiss for Swansea fans tonight.

The clubs produced a thrilling match when they met in the FA Cup in 2018-19.

Swansea, then managed by Graham Potter, scored a glorious team goal which was rounded off by a fine finish from Bersant Celina.

The Kosovan's strike put Swansea 2-0 up, only for Pep Guardiola's side to seal a 3-2 comeback triumph thanks in part to two contentious goals.

This feels like a huge game for both sides.

Holders Newcastle United ended a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy by winning this competition last year.

Spurs did not have to wait quite so long to end their own 17-year silverware drought, following the club’s Europa League triumph last season, but manager Thomas Frank has already talked about how his side are “very eager” to win more.

Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes, similarly, is determined to “create history” by retaining the cup.

    Something has to give tonight.

And the path to Wembley will really start to open up for whoever reaches a quarter-final before October is even out.

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, speaking to Sky Sports: "We always try to win - it is not to be arrogant - anything else makes no sense to me.

"It is maybe the most difficult opposition you can play in the round of 16, but we will give our best to qualify for the quarter-final and then we will see. "

Liverpool v Crystal Palace (20:00 GMT)

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live at Anfield

I feel sorry for Andrew Robertson that he is playing left centre-back, but again I think that is down to them not having enough cover in that position.

Milos Kerkez has not been at his best. However, he is going against Ismaila Sarr and that is not an easy task. It could backfire.

He has had a tough start to his Liverpool career, but if he can learn anything, learn off Andrew Robertson tonight.

  14. Swansea fans should 'not be silenced' - Sheehanpublished at 19:24 GMT 29 October 2025

Swansea v Man City (19:45 GMT)

    Swansea City

Swansea City head coach Alan Sheehan has called on the home support to "not be silenced" when they try to topple Manchester City.

Sheehan says the Premier League giants will look to "frustrate" the home crowd, and has called on supporters to be vocal throughout to give them the best chance of claiming an upset.

"We want the fans to be right behind the team," said Sheehan. "You're talking about a world class team that is going to try and quieten them as much as possible, so don't be silenced.

"Manchester City can frustrate you with the amount of the ball they have, we understand that we will have to be compact."

  15. New name on the cup?published at 19:23 GMT 29 October 2025

    Carabao Cup

Will there be a new name on the League Cup this season?

On Tuesday, Fulham, Brentford and Cardiff City all advanced to the quarter-finals. None of those clubs have won the trophy before.

Of the teams in action tonight, Brighton and Crystal Palace are yet to win the competition.

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, speaking to Sky Sports about how much the Carabao Cup means to the team: "I think a lot because you know the last season, every game last season in this cup, we play to win again, we play to win every game.

"And tonight we know it's a very tough game because we play against a very good team and they play very good football. But we are ready for every game, for every team and tonight we are ready."

  18. 'In this competition we use our younger players'published at 19:20 GMT 29 October 2025

Liverpool v Crystal Palace (20:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think people who know this club and followed this club know that in this competition we use this for our younger players.

"That is one of the reasons. The other reason is we have only four of five injuries, but I have to play the same players. There are multiple reasons why we have lost so many games. With all the reasons, there is still no excuse to lose so many.

"If we keep playing the same players like I tried with Alexander Isak, players who have missed out on pre-season. It's another risk of getting an injury."

  20. Will win over Chelsea lift gloom over Molineux?published at 19:18 GMT 29 October 2025

    Wolves v Chelsea (19:45 GMT)

    Nizaar Kinsella
    BBC Sport Chelsea reporter

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has delivered wins over Everton and West Ham in this competition but even beating Chelsea might not inspire these supporters.

They will remain bottom of the Premier League with just two points from nine matches thus far and after a last-gasp 3-2 defeat at home to Burnley on Sunday.

It's perhaps reflected in Pereira's team selection but - by the same token - some of these players might be banging on the manager's door if they secure yet another win in the cup having been overlooked for matches in the league.
