Our radio colleagues are not so fortunate as they are on top deck of the steepling stands, unprotected and wide open to the elements.

Supplies of towels and anything to protect the electrical equipment have been in evidence.

When you try and tell a player he's a finisher it's not as easy as it sounds. You always want to start the game but in tournament football, from my experience you see players come off the bench and score goals. Like Rashford in the last game. This tournament is more about England's squad, rather than the starting XI.

Elliot Anderson was the schoolboy footballer so good his teachers discussed placing a bet on him playing for England. The bet was never made - but Thomas Tuchel is backing him to be a winner at the World Cup.

Anderson's journey from the playing fields of Tyneside to the World Cup stage, and to potentially becoming the most expensive player in British football history, continues when England play Ghana in Boston on Tuesday.

The midfielder is the one that painfully got away from Newcastle United but is still revered and respected in his home city as the "quiet and self-effacing" local boy made good.

There’s fan zones and watch parties all over the host cities in North America and to say there are many better than the iconic Santa Monica pier in California would be telling porky pies.

The sun is out here and England fans have gathered in their numbers. Rick here on the right lives in Los Angeles but his friends have flown out to be out here soaking up the atmosphere in the USA, even if they can’t be at the game.

Ghana are the eighth different African nation England have faced at a World Cup, which is more than any other country.

And the good news for the Three Lions is that they have never lost any of the previous eight games (they’ve faced Tunisia twice), winning five and drawing three.

Their first encounter with an African team was in 1986 against Morocco before four years later saw one of their most memorable ever World Cup matches as Bobby Robson’s side almost lost to Cameroon in the quarter-finals. A see-saw encounter went into extra-time before a Gary Lineker penalty gave England a narrow 3-2 win.

Less memorable was the infamous 0-0 draw with Algeria in South Africa, while in Qatar four years ago they comfortably beat Senegal 3-0 in the last 16.

When you look at what Bukayo Saka said about Djed Spence. Saka said, Spence is one of the best in training defensively.

What Spence has done, he has turned his fortune around at club level. At Tottenham he has reestablished himself.

Djed Spence will become the first Muslim player to start for England at a men's World Cup tonight.

The 25-year-old, who will earn his eighth cap against Ghana, came on a substitute during the opening win against Croatia.

Speaking before his debut last year, Spence described it as a "blessing".

"I pray a lot, I give gratitude to God," he added. "In the toughest moments of my life, the darkest moments, I've always believed that God has always been by my side. It's a big thing for me, my faith."

England have got the quality to make changes and Djed Spence did really well when he came on [against Croatia]. For him to come in gives Nico O'Reilly a rest and also John Stones.

It was always going to be tough to play three games in the group so I don't think it's dropped, it's resting them. Only four days before the next games, it's sensible changes.

On the changes to the line up:

I think the changes make sense. If you look at Spence and what he can do defensively, he is one of the best one-on-one defenders, so I understand that. Guehi on the left hand side [of centre-back], he can also deal with the counter-attack, so that makes sense.

England boss Thomas Tuchel speaking to BBC One: "They [Guehi and Spence] deserve to play and we have a little bit more speed and a different profile of players. Marc is a little bit more agile and faster than John [Stones] and it is more convenient for him to play on the left side [of centre-back], and Djed justa bit more defensive and faster, more defensive to control the counter attacks.

"Ghana are happy to give up possession and they want to have ball wins in the centre of the pitch. They want us to fall asleep, their opponents to feel safe, and then do the counter-attacks with very fast and physical players. The other thing is very direct out to the wings. I think we will have a lot of duels on the wing-back position and we need to be careful in the coverage and be aggressive to stop counter-attacks before they get dangerous."

On the importance of patience: "Always it's important. I just heard the grass is a bit long so we are happy that it has been raining, maybe not too fast, let's see. We need to adapt. It is important we find a good balance between patience and intensity and the freedom to attack. While we are attacking we need to protect ourselves from being too open."

On breaking England's run of drawing their second game at tournaments: "Winning is always the most important of course but listen even a draw is not the end of the world. We want to put out a good performance and continue where we left off. I'm pretty sure Ghana dreams of winning. We have a very tough group and after a tough first match comes the next match. It's a tough game against a strong opponent, we will try to make it happen and go for the win."

I'm an England fan now. I'm out of the game, but as a former professional to hear him speak about those changes, they're potentially difficult questions. 'Is John Stones fit enough?'. All the decisions about picking him in this squad. 'Why are you picking Marc Guehi tonight? I think he's a little bit more agile and a little bit faster than John which is important tonight'.

End of. Job done. Everyone knows they're important.

It's those little things as players which make a big difference. I loved it.

We know Thomas Tuchel is not afraid to give his side a telling off.

Whatever he said to them at half time during the Croatia match had the desired effect as, after a sloppy first half, England immediately went 3-2 up through Jude Bellingham before Marcus Rashford made it four.

There has since been a clip circulating of Tuchel shouting at Djed Spence to "wake up" in a training session and the players have joked about the German's willingness to give them a talking to.

His assistant Anthony Barry was also quick to criticise the players at half time last week.

A briefing for photographers has just taken place in the media room, with specific mention of the new position for managers and coaching staff during the national anthems, after Thomas Tuchel complained about not being able to see his team before the match against Croatia.

Photographers were told to “please try and respect the space for the staff” - so Tuchel should have better view this time round.

I suppose the big question tonight remains whether or not Bukayo Saka is fit.

The winger came on as a 72nd-minute substitute for Noni Madueke against Croatia last week as he continues to recover from an Achilles injury.

He did not train with the rest of the squad on Saturday but did take part in their penultimate session on Sunday.

England boss Thomas Tuchel has said Saka is unlikely to be in contention to start until the third group game versus Panama and he's on the bench here tonight.

Will we see him make a substitute appearance again?

England winger Anthony Gordon, speaking on BBC One about what Thomas Tuchel has said to the team: "Focus. Do what we need to do. We've prepared, we've done everything we possibly can to perform, so go and do it."

On the rainy conditions today: "They favour me definitely. I haven't got the skin to deal with the heat. I'm happy about the weather. I think that's a big advantage for us.The heat is something we're not used to, so we need to use that to our advantage."

On making his second successive World Cup start: "I need to show when I get the opportunity because we have some players with a lot of quality who can put me in good positions. Hopefully we see that today."
