Well, well, well.

That’s lifted most cauld folks in here.

It was a fierce pressing game early on by Arbroath. They were right up in the faces of the Dunfermline Athletic players.

But all it took was one swift break from the hosts to carve open the visitors and Chris Kane applied the finish.

Partick Thistle will play the winner of this tie and their sporting director, Ian Baraclough, has taken up his seat in the stand.

It is so, so cold.

More like December than May…

An early tussle between Dunfermline Athletic forward Chris Kane and Arbroath's Craig Watson gives an indication of how this tie might go.

No-one was pulling out of that challenge.

And off we go...

Arbroath co-manager Colin Hamilton tells BBC Scotland: "We've had a good few days' rest and we're ready to go.

"Friday's out the window. We know how tough it's going to be. Good performance, no injuries and we'll see how we go on the Friday.

"We've had an exceptional year and we want to go as far as we can. Dunfermline's a fantastic side. They're having a good year as well."

Dunfermline Athletic manager Neil Lennon tells BBC Scotland: "There's little between the teams so either game could go either way.

"If it doesn't go our way tonight, we've still got 90 minutes in the second leg. If we can take an advantage to Gayfield, great.

"You've got a possibility of seven games or five games or three. We're at the business end of the season. It's really win or bust."

A night for big players.

Chris Kane leads the line for Dunfermline Athletic and will hope to get the better of Arbroath goalkeeper Aidan McAdams.

Arbroath assured themselves of third place with a point at East End Park and the slight advantage of being at home for the second leg. Without question, the Red Lichties have been one of the success stories of the season.

Under the co-management of David Gold and Colin Hamilton they have exceeded all expectations by finishing third, after the part-time side were promoted from Scottish League 1.

There have been echoes of the same heights they reached under Dick Campbell four years ago when they pushed Kilmarnock almost all the way for the Championship title.

A fairy tale chance is there again to make the leap to the top flight.

You could say this is the first of seven potential cup finals for Dunfermline.

They will, of course, compete in the real, big one - the Scottish Cup final - on Saturday, 23 May against Celtic.

Like that date hasn't already got a big red circle on calendars in the Kingdom of Fife.

But Neil Lennon wants to shelve chat of that game for now, with full focus, firstly, on this two-legged affair with Arbroath.

By the end of the week, Dunfermline and Arbroath will be sick of the sight of each other.

The pair met on Friday just gone for the final game of the regular Championship season.

A dress rehearsal for this week's pair of games? Hmm, not so much.

Both sides were fair changed as they played out a pretty drab 0-0 draw here at East End Park.

A win for the Pars would have ensured a home second leg, but in the grand scheme of things, there wasn't much of a fight for it.

Play-off season is upon us and, from past experience, this is where things start to get really tasty.

Dunfermline Athletic and Arbroath kick us off tonight in the Scottish Premiership play-off quarter-final first leg, with eyes on promotion to the top flight.

But that's miles away the now. Partick Thistle lie in wait for the winner next week before a meeting with whoever finishes 11th in the Premiership.
