We know Sunderland are going to be in the Premier League next year so this is in a lot of ways a free-hit where they could go and really concentrate on it [the FA Cup].
They put out as strong a team as possible and they just never really got toing today in terms of any quality.

"Better than expected. We went out and gave it our all, to come out 1-0 with a clean sheet and the performance we put in was outstanding.
"They were up for it but the field levelled it a bit. We know that and we were smart and played to the conditions. Similar game plan to Bristol City and it paid off."
On goal: "Popped up so nicely, off his knee, back across goal and I watched it almost in slow motion looping over the keeper."
Best thing about performance: "The togetherness - the last five or 10 minutes, how connected we were. Galloping up the pitch and getting back, anything it took to get it over the line."
"I didn't even clock it was the quarters we got into to be honest! I just heard that. I know it was 30 years to get into this round, it's amazing."
How are Port Vale bottom of League One? "We are in that position but it's been a tough old season. Over the last couple of weeks we have come together as a team and found something to drive us forward. We're sticking together."
On knocking Sunderland out as a boyhood Newcastle fan: "It doesn't get better than that. That was something I've never even dreamt of, for it to go that way I think my family will be happy!"
On who he would like to face next: "I would've said Newcastle but after the game last night, I will take anyone."

Port Vale thoroughly deserved it, let's not beat around the bush.
Credit to them, they played the conditions much better, they created opportunities and they kept a team at bay who's flying in the Premier League.

Looking down at those Port Vale players, every single one of them, the ones who started and the ones who came on have been absolutely incredible.
They've won every second ball, every header, they've given everything they've got and when the time came to have that little bit of quality, with that lovely little header from Waine they came up with that at the right time.

My late uncle, Ray King, was goalie in the 1954 Vale team that reached the FA Cup semi-finals against 1st Division side West Brom. Maybe this season they’ll go one further?

Goalscorer Ben Waine tells TNT Sports that he had wanted Newcastle United in the next round until their exit yesterday, but says the team will "take it to" whoever they get.
"That is unbelievable, I have never seen this place like this.
"I know it wasn't the best game to watch but I think we deserved it.
"We love this pitch here at Port Vale and we played to the conditions.
"We got a chance, we took it and then we dug in and defended for our lives."

Port Vale have eliminated a Premier League opponent from the competition for the first time since their famous victory over cup holders Everton in the 1995-96 fourth round.
They now have more victories in the two major domestic cup competitions this season than across 32 games in League One.

Leeds have lost two of their last 15 meetings with Norwich in all competitions (W9 D4), on both occasions losing to current manager Daniel Farke when he was Canaries boss in April 2018 and February 2019.
This is the fourth FA Cup tie between Leeds and Norwich – the Canaries went through in a fourth round replay in 1934-35, while the Whites won 5-0 in a third round second replay in 1972-73 and then 5-2 in the third round in 1976-77.
Leeds are looking to reach an FA Cup quarter-final for the first time since 2002-03 under Terry Venables – they’ve been knocked out in the fifth round on four occasions since then. This is their first home game at this stage since 1998-99, drawing 1-1 with Spurs before losing a replay 0-2.
Norwich have been eliminated in each of their last 14 FA Cup ties against top-flight teams while playing outside the top division themselves, last progressing from one of these ties in the third round in 1981-82 when they beat Stoke City 1-0.
Leeds have progressed from each of their last six FA Cup ties against sides from a lower division, since losing 3-0 to Crawley in January 2021. As a Premier League side, the Whites have won eight of their last nine at Elland Road against lower league sides, losing 1-0 to Wolves in March 1998 in the other.
Norwich City’s Anis Ben Slimane has the most assists of any player in this season’s FA Cup from the first round onwards (4), assisting two goals against each of Walsall and West Brom in the third and fourth rounds respectively.
