I'm sure you've all seen it by now but if you haven't, take a look at BBC iPlayer's series - Macclesfield: From The Ashes.

It follows former footballer Robbie Savage and local businessman Rob Smethurst’s attempts to revive the fortunes of Macclesfield FC.

For sixth-tier Macclesfield, today's game is a dream and the home faithful are thrilled to be welcoming the holders to The Leasing.com Stadium.

Everton have eight players out because of injuries, suspensions and international duty but David Moyes has named a relatively strong starting XI at least.

There are four changes from the draw with Wolves, two enforced after Jack Grealish and Michael Keane were sent off.

Nathan Patterson, Merlin Rohl, Beto and Tyler Dibling come in. There's no Tim Iroegbunam. David Moyes says he has a "slight injury".

Everton's bench is lacking experience with 17-year-old Malik Olayiwola in line for a debut.

Luke O'Nien, Sunderland's captain from their rise from League One, makes his first start of the season while Noah Sadiki is back from Afcon. Romaine Mundle, Dennis Cirkin and Elizer Mayenda are the others to start. Wilson Isidor is back on the bench after injury.

Cheltenham, 18th in League Two, make three changes to the 11 that began the 3-0 win over Crawley Town and hand a debut to defender George Nurse, who joined the club on a free transfer on Thursday.

Former Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner says Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie against another of his former teams, Wolverhampton Wanders, is a chance for the League Two strugglers to "express themselves" and potentially "ignite" their difficult season.

Salop are 22nd in the table, only two points clear of the relegation zone, having won four out of their 24 league games.

He says he hopes current Shrewsbury head coach Michael Appleton can make the team believe they can give Wolves - in a fight to hang on to their Premier League status this season - a run for their money at Molineux.

"He'll be talking about hard work and discipline," Turner told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"The team have got to be well organised but don't need to be motivated. If you're not motivated at a game like this they shouldn't be playing.

"It's up to the manager to emphasise what they're good at and get them to play with freedom.

"Nobody expects a result for Shrewsbury, so you've got that freedom to go and express yourself. The FA Cup could ignite a season."

The FA Cup is a competition the Rooney family hold close to their hearts.

Wayne Rooney lifted the trophy with Manchester United in 2016 and as a young fan watched his boyhood club Everton win the trophy at Wembley in 1995.

But Macclesfield manager John Rooney - Wayne's younger brother - said beating Crystal Palace today would eclipse all of the above.

"That would be top of the list to be honest," he said.

"Obviously Wayne went and won it, but if Macclesfield go and knock Crystal Palace out it will be one of the biggest upsets ever in the competition and one we are looking forward to."

Macclesfield are still a club in mourning after the death of forward Ethan McLeod, who died in a car accident on 16 December while travelling back from the National League North match at Bedford Town.

Today's game against Crystal Palace comes just 25 days after the 21-year-old's passing and manager John Rooney said recent events have put things into perspective.

Rooney took it upon himself to contact every member of the squad when the news was confirmed.

"Nothing can prepare you for that," he told BBC Sport. "When you have to ring every player individually and tell them, I can't explain what it felt like.

"I wanted to take that on. I didn't want people ringing different players. I wanted to be the one to tell that news. I thought that was the right thing to do at the time.

"I don't think many managers will ever have to speak to the lads and let them know what happened with their friend. It is the hardest thing I have ever done and will ever have to do."

It is the stuff of dreams for the lowest-ranked team left in the FA Cup to take on the holders in the third round. When Macclesfield host Crystal Palace on Saturday it will be one of the biggest days in their recent history, but one also tinged with sadness.

On 16 December, Silkmen forward Ethan McLeod died in a car accident while travelling back from Macclesfield's National League North match at Bedford Town.

Macclesfield's first game after McLeod's death was postponed, but the club have played three league matches since.

Just the 117 places separate Macclesfield and Crystal Palace but in the FA Cup, we all know anything can happen.

The 5,300-capacity Leasing.com Stadium will play host to what could be one of the biggest upsets in FA Cup history.
