    Porto 0-1 Rangers

Almost an immediate response from Porto.

They come down the left and swing in a ball that almost finds William Gomes, but he can't connect when in front of goal, only a few yards out.

  2. goal

GOAL Celtic 2-0 Utrechtpublished at 20:10 GMT 29 January

    Nick Viergever (own goal)

It's an awful return to Parkhead for Vasilas Barkas, whose short pass is pounced upon by Benjamin Nygren.

The Swede squares it for Daizen Maeda, but it's turned home by visiting defender Nick Viergever.

    What a start for Celtic.

GOAL Porto 0-1 Rangerspublished at 20:08 GMT 29 January

    Djeidi Gassama

With their first attack, Rangers score!

Porto try to play out from a goal kick, but Rangers cut it out. Findlay Curtis takes a touch away from the defender, swings in a great cross to the back post, and Gassama plants his header into the ground and back across the keeper.

A phenomenal start for Danny Rohl's side.

    Porto 0-0 Rangers

And we're under way in Porto...

And almost instantly, the hosts are into the Rangers box, but Jayden Meghoma does just enough to end the dangerous attack.

It definitely looks like three at the back for Rangers.

It's far from convincing from Celtic but they deal with the corner and a follow-up cross from the lively visitors.

  12. Europa League not doing it for Porto fanspublished at 19:57 GMT 29 January

    Porto v Rangers (20:00)

    Alasdair Lamont
    BBC Sport Scotland in Porto

Porto have been imperious in the league this season, winning all but one of their games and they are doing pretty well in Europe too, but it looks like the cavernous Estadio do Dragao will be well short of its 50,000 capacity.

It appears the Europa League just doesn't capture the imagination of the locals, particularly as they will have watched their rivals Benfica producing that magical Champions League win over Real Madrid last night, while Sporting also progressed.

  16. ICYMI: What do Celtic need to get through?published at 19:49 GMT 29 January

    Celtic v Utrecht (20:00)

Celtic face Utrecht knowing a victory would seal a place in the knockout phase.

The Scottish champions have eight points and are 24th in the table, the last play-off berth, while Utrecht are already eliminated in 34th.

A draw would not be enough to progress if Ludogorets, Feyenoord and Basel win, while Steaua Bucharest and Go Ahead Eagles could also finish above Celtic if Martin O'Neill's side draw and they earn handsome victories.

If Celtic lose, Ludogorets would just need a draw to leapfrog Celtic because of their superior goal difference.

  17. Postpublished at 19:46 GMT 29 January

    Celtic v Utrecht (20:00)

Celtic have won their past two major European matches against Dutch opponents, both times beating Feyenoord (in December 2023 and November 2025).

Meanwhile, Utrecht are winless in 10 away major European matches (D2 L8) since winning 4-0 at MSK Zilina in October 2003 - they've only netted two goals in their 10 away games since.

  18. 'Don't waste it, go for it'published at 19:43 GMT 29 January

    Celtic v Utrecht (20:00)

Celtic interim manager Martin O'Neill tells TNT Sports: "We've made it difficult for ourselves leaving it to this game.

"We will need [Kelechi Iheanacho and the other subs]. The bench will play a very important part. We've expended a lot of energy in recent weeks.

"It's more games to look forward to if you make it. If you're trying to chase down the league... if I was the opposition I'd be delighted if Celtic go through. It's more games for us. But that's all part of it.

"We've had two amazing away performances at Feyenoord and Bologna. Don't waste it, go for it."

  19. 'Celtic board speak when it suits them'published at 19:40 GMT 29 January

    Celtic v Utrecht (20:00)

    Tom English
BBC Scotland chief sports writer on Sportsound

Time and again, Celtic managers are shoved out and asked to explain why there aren't any signings.

Michael Nicholson never says anything, Dermot Desmond never says anything.

They have plenty to say when it suits them. It's incredible.

  20. Home discomforts?published at 19:38 GMT 29 January

    Celtic v Utrecht (20:00)

    Kheredine Idessane
BBC Sport Scotland at Celtic Park

Celtic will be looking to buck a trend this evening, having won more Europa League points away from home this season than they have at Parkhead, where they lost to Braga under Brendan Rodgers and Roma under Wilfired Nancy.

Their ability to qualify this evening, with a win, is mainly down to the draws in Belgrade and Bologna and the fine win against Feyenoord in Rotterdam. Rodgers' side did beat Sturm Graz in Glasgow in October before his sudden departure.

The home side will be looking to the Martin O'Neill factor. He's yet to play a home European match in either of the two spells since he came back and of the 13 games he's presided over, he's only lost one.
