Paris St-Germain are bidding to go one step further than in 2020 when they lost the Champions League final to Bayern Munich.

That is the only time they have reached the final.

For all the money they have spent under their Qatari owners, they have never landed club football's greatest trophy.

The only French team to ever be crowned European champions were Marseille in 1993.

More than 3% of all Champions League games this season have been between PSG and Dortmund.

This is their fourth meeting of the campaign.

They were the top two in Group F, finishing above AC Milan and Newcastle. PSG won 2-0 at home and drew 1-1 in Germany.

Dortmund won the first leg last week with Niclas Fullkrug netting the only goal.

These two played each other in the group stage, and on that first night I was in Paris as PSG looked the part. They really looked a true collective in their first Champions League game post Neymar and Lionel Messi and they gave Dortmund a lesson.

Dortmund were really poor back in September. Way, way too passive.

But Kylian Mbappe, they struggled to get into the game a little bit in the first leg, certainly when he was at centre forward. So maybe that gives Luis Enrique food for thought.

Paris St-Germain are bidding to become the first side to lose the first leg in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals in a Champions League campaign and still progress to reach the final.

They lost 3-2 to Barcelona in the quarters but won 4-1 in the second leg to go through.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl was on the bench the last time they were in the Champions League final, when they lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich at Wembley.

"It would be a huge step," he said on the opportunity to reach the final again.

"I think we've caused a sensation in Europe by reaching the semi-finals again after such a long time, the fourth time in the club's history.

"That's already a big achievement. But the task is to take the next step. We're raring to go, we have the hunger. It would give us the chance to do a lot of positive work in many areas.

"It would put us into the spotlight once again across Europe, it would be a great thing from an economic point of view and it would also be a huge statement for all BVB fans to be back at Wembley, and perhaps write history all over again.

"We need a lot of courage, but also a lot of anticipation, optimism and a certain amount of nerves, which is part and parcel of a Champions League semi-final against PSG. We laid a good foundation last week to keep the Wembley dream alive. To achieve it, we need a really good performance tomorrow."

The last time Borussia Dortmund were in the Champions League final, they faced Bayern Munich at Wembley in 2013 - but lost.

A clean sheet tonight in Paris would see them return to club football's showpiece game for the first time in 11 years. At Wembley. Possibly against Bayern Munich.

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels is ready for another battle with Paris St-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

"We'll have a big job on our hands if he starts in the number-nine role again," the veteran centre-back said.

"You can only deal with him as a team. His pace, which he uses intelligently, means he's difficult to defend against one-on-one.

"Once he's gone, he's gone."

Mbappe played centrally last week but with Goncalo Ramos back in the team, we expect him to be out wide.

Paris St-Germain captain Marquinhos: "We motivated each other, we picked ourselves up immediately after the first leg.

"The coach knows how to prepare this kind of game.

"I've been here 11 years and it's my third Champions League semi-final. You love having the opportunity to play a game like this one."

On the 2020 final against Bayern Munich: "It's very difficult to compare between seasons, and teams. Of course we remember 2020.

"Unfortunately, we didn't win, but we had a great run which all Parisians will remember. It was a special year, with no fans, in a very different context.
