Sheffield United have launched a shock loan move for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The Championship side are working on a deal to sign the former England international ahead of today’s deadline.

Talks over the structure of the deal are ongoing and it remains to be seen as to whether it can be completed in the coming hours.

Phillips' only appearance of the season so far came as a late substitute in City's League Cup win over Huddersfield in September.

Crystal Palace hold an interest in Lyon defender Ruben Kluivert, but a deal is described as being difficult to complete ahead of the deadline.

The Eagles are trying to strengthen their squad ahead of the 7pm cut-off and have identified Kluivert, 24, as a target.

But according to sources a deal is said to be hard to complete ahead of the deadline.

Kluivert’s father is former Holland striker Patrick. Brother Justin plays in the Premier League for Bournemouth.

The 22-year-old Norwegian has failed to make an appearance for the Black Cats in the Premier League this season but did feature as a late substitute in their Championship play-off final win over Sheffield United last season.

Hjelde is the son of former Nottingham Forest defender Jon Olav Hjelde.

If I’m United, I’m testing the waters for a move for Marmoush. Yes it would be a big deal but he hardly plays at City and would add be much better in a free flowing Carrick team.

  10. West Ham keeper Hermansen eager to go out on loanpublished at 13:10 GMT 2 February

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

West Ham goalkeeper Mads Hermansen is eager to go out on loan before the deadline.

The 25-year-old has not played in the Premier League since September and wants more game time ahead of a potential World Cup spot.

Denmark face North Macedonia in their play-off semi-final next month with the winners playing Czechia or the Republic of Ireland as they try to reach the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer.

Hermansen joined West Ham from Leicester for £16.5m in the summer and started the season as No.1 but was replaced after just four games by Alphonse Areola.

He has played just once since, the 2-1 FA Cup win against QPR last month.

If West Ham were to let the goalkeeper go out they would need to source a replacement before this evening's deadline so there is no guarantee Hermansen will get his wish.

  11. Brentford expecting just one deadline day exitpublished at 13:06 GMT 2 February

Brentford are not expecting any incoming signings, with only midfielder Frank Onyeka set to complete a loan move to Coventry City on deadline day.

The 28-year-old Nigeria international has grown frustrated by a lack of playing time in recent months and is expected to join Frank Lampard’s title-chasing Championship side.

The deal is also understood to include an obligation to buy, dependent on certain conditions, including promotion to the Premier League.

Get Involved - 'Leeds need a couple of quality signings to stay in the Premier League'published at 12:57 GMT 2 February

Leeds have traditionally been spectacularly mediocre in recent transfer windows. Our aim has always been to stay in the Premier League and we probably need a couple of quality signings to ensure that happens. In order of priority, a creative midfielder (shame we missed Wilson), a striker and a goalkeeper.

We've got a little bit more information on that out of the blue transfer news from earlier concerning Arsenal's approach to sign 18-year-old forward James Wilson from Hearts.

BBC Sport Senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel says that discussions are over a proposed loan deal for the remainder of the season, with a view to signing the forward on a permanent basis should he impress during his time in north London.

The teenager has already been capped by Scotland and has scored eight goals in 21 starts for the Edinburgh club, including two goals in 10 appearances this season.

It is expected he will compete for a spot within Arsenal's U21s side and is not considered a first team signing.

According to The Guardian's Tom Garry, external, Arsenal full-back Katie McCabe is likely to leave the club this summer after over ten years in north London.

He says that there is 'not a new deal on the table' for the Republic of Ireland skipper, with the club wanting to 'refresh the squad'.

    HOWEVER.

For those eager for something to happen...

At this exact time on transfer deadline day back in the summer, there were only two confirmed transfers in the Premier League.

By the time the window shut, 25 deals had been concluded.

There is hope for us all, yet.

  18. Elliott expected to remain with Aston Villapublished at 12:36 GMT 2 February

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Harvey Elliott is expected to stay at Aston Villa.

The Liverpool loanee's future has been in doubt since Villa boss Unai Emery decided he did not want to make his move from Anfield permanent.

Elliott is now three appearances away from triggering a transfer worth £35m after initially joining on loan in the summer.

The attacker had been sidelined by Emery - although he has remained training with the first team - with the manager saying Villa decided in October not to buy the 21-year-old.

Yet after an injury crisis at Villa with Boubacar Kamara out for the season and John McGinn and Youri Tielemans out for months Elliott has featured in Villa's last two games - having not played since 2 October.

He played the entire match in Villa's Europa League win over Red Bull Salzburg last week and was a second-half substitute in Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Brentford.

  19. 'Jacquet signing in summer for financial reasons'published at 12:31 GMT 2 February

    Paul MacDonald
    FootballTransfers.com

Liverpool's signing of Jeremy Jacquet was likely pushed to the summer to allow the 20-year-old another five months of game time, but also for financial reasons as we move to the new Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) rules - which replaces PSR - from 2026-27.

Liverpool, of course, spent heavily last summer and are already making a big statement as to their business next year, while keeping their spending in line with the new regulations.
