Brighton goalscorer Joao Pedro, speaking to Sky Sports: “We started the game well. We could have won but got a point. We need to look forward.

“We conceded in the first half but knew we could win this game. We tried to score at the beginning of the second half. We wanted to win.”

On the penalty: “I tried to control the ball and then [Saliba] hit me. It’s good that I scored. I always try to be positive with goals and assists. I like the feeling [of scoring] and hopefully I’ll score more.”

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke, speaking to Sky Sports: “I think we did quite well. We shouldn’t have conceded the first goal. That shouldn’t happen to us, but you can see a lot of character in the boys. We need to be more consistent.

“We have a really young team. The average age of our team is 23. It’s tough sometimes, but our guys fight for everything. Maybe you need a bit more experience to manage the game.

“In some parts we are really good. Consistency is an important thing for us to get back where we need to be.”

On Arsenal’s opener: “[Ethan Nwaneri] was totally free on the right, so he was able to come inside. We should have done better as a team.”

Rodri probably has more to worry about than that now I'd imagine.

Another good day for Liverpool without playing with Arsenal and Chelsea both dropping points. Title rivals (?) Nottingham Forest play on Monday.

Southampton can probably get packing their bags already after yet another defeat at the bottom.

Arsenal needed to grind it out at 1-0.

You get out the stadium on the bus home happy with your three points.

They just couldn't do it, but Brighton were better in the second half.

Arsenal were very good in patches.

But it felt like they needed to do a bit more to see this game through. It never happened in the second half.

Lyle Stevik: We've barely digested our trifle, and the title race is over.

The point takes Brighton into the top half - and their players look happier with their day's work. Even though if they'd taken their chances better they'd have won the game.

Arsenal players look pretty dejected as they trudge off down the tunnel.

They are five points behind Liverpool - who have two games in hand over them.

Arsenal will consider this two points dropped in the title race - but they could easily have lost this. Fully deserved point for Brighton.
