With Saka injured and a need to at least give Kane rest at some point, I see no logic in taking someone like Jordan Henderson and leaving Jarrod Bowen behind. Cover on the flanks and a good scoring record, including through the middle, for years for West Ham.

When Antoine Semenyo signed for Bournemouth, he sent former Leeds United manager David Hockaday a bottle of Champagne.

An unlikely duo? Perhaps. But if anyone can take credit for Semenyo's rise, it is Hockaday.

On the label of the bottle read the words "hunger and belief".

Words that resonated with Semenyo so much as a teenager that, at the biggest moment of his career to that point, he felt the need to reiterate them to the man who instilled them in him.

Semenyo's journey to the top has been a complicated one. The failed academy trials, the 5am starts to play non-league football, the thoughts of quitting the sport altogether.

But, now aged 26, it has all led to this. A game against England in a World Cup.

A humble, determined man, his remarkable rise is rooted in his resilience and the belief of a select few people who saw something in a down-and-out kid searching for his big break.

Antoine Semenyo is in a team that haven't scored more than one goal in any game since October and he will be Ghana's main threat. We know the quality he has got. He is a really quality player and is an offensive weapon - they need to utilise him.

"To go from Belfast, to Rhode Island, to the Middle East, to Glentoran, to Qatar, to Cobh Ramblers, to Ghana and back to Rhode Island in 30 years is an interesting story and I'm glad to get the chance to share it."

Mick McDermott has seen it all during a long coaching career that has taken him all across the world in various roles.

The Belfast native is speaking to BBC Sport NI from Providence, Rhode Island, Ghana's base for the World Cup.

He is part of Carlos Queiroz's backroom staff once again and is also working as a performance co-ordinator for the Black Stars.

It is the second World Cup McDermott has worked at after also linking up with Queiroz for Iran's campaign in 2018, but this one means a bit more to the former Glens boss.

With their base in Rhode Island, the 52-year-old comes full circle and returns to a place which holds plenty of special memories and one which ignited his footballing journey.

"It's unbelievable, I had no idea this job was going to appear, which is common in football. I lived in Rhode Island, I played football at the university on a scholarship," he told BBC Sport NI's Thomas Kane.

"Karla played volleyball, that's where we met and got married, so I lived here for six years. I haven't been back in a long time, I have seen some friends out here and hoping to see more, but it's a small world."

It's been quite the journey for a man who was set to go into a career as a teacher before accepting a coaching role while in the US.

Carlos Queiroz is very tactical, he came into Manchester United and changed the way we trained and played a bit for three years.

I would say he is more of an defensive coach, tactically he is astute, his detail is as good as I have seen in my career. What I saw from Ghana against Panama is exactly what Carlos is. Defensively sound and defensively minded.

He will try and nullify the threats of England with his defensive tactics. He focuses on the details tactically and that is what you will see from Ghana tonight.

Mick McDermott, a member of Ghana's backroom staff, believes the England are a formidable force, as demonstrated by their 4-2 win over Croatia, he also thinks the game is a "free one" for Ghana with the pressure off after winning their first game.

"They have quality players firing on all cylinders and we know it's going to be a massive challenge but it's called the World Cup for a reason," McDermott said. "Every game is a massive challenge, the Panama game was.

"We're in a good position right now. We know we have to be resilient to get through it. The key was to get through the first game and we did.

"Our boys play for big clubs and in big games. We're not overawed going to play England, the boys have belief and it depends how we show up on the day. When the curtain opens you have to dance and I think the boys are more than capable of getting a result."

Key to their hopes of springing an upset will be Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo, who has won 35 caps for his country and will be looking to net his first World Cup goal.

"I've not been around someone as humble as him. In terms of his football talent, [he's] probably as explosive a player I've seen to go from a jog to full tilt, he's really powerful," McDermott said.

"He has the ability, if he's on his game, to hurt any full-backs in the world but we have some others. We have five or six with that same pace and those are nice weapons to have."

  11. England's potential route to the finalpublished at 15:43 BST 23 June

    England v Ghana (21:00 BST)

If England beat Ghana tonight, they will be assured of a place in the last 32 of the World Cup.

They will play a third-placed team if they win Group L, which, as it stands, is Portugal. That game is currently down as a 17:00 BST kick-off on Wednesday 1st July.

In the last 16, they're on track to face Mexico in Mexico City should the co-hosts come through the last 32.

The quarter-final would see England face one of Brazil, Japan, Ivory Coast or Norway in the current picture.

In the final four, a potential date with Lionel Messi's Argentina could await.

Teams that could await England in the final if they make it include France, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany (and Scotland!).

All the above is subject to change obviously! See the full bracket here.

Bukayo Saka came off the bench in the 4-2 win over Croatia on Wednesday, and provided an assist to fellow substitute Marcus Rashford for England's fourth.

Before the tournament, Tuchel said Saka would require managing through the opening stages because of what is understood to be an Achilles tendinitis issue.

Saka has insisted he was ready to play and was prepared to "gamble" on his fitness to help the team during the World Cup.

However, Tuchel said the 24-year-old is unlikely to start until the final Group L game against Panama in New Jersey on Saturday, 27 June (22:00 BST).

"Bukayo is ready and will get more and more ready," Tuchel said. "I think once we go to the last game of this group he will be ready."

Saka has been carrying the issue for some time, and while there was concern behind the scenes at Arsenal, they deemed the forward fit enough to start regularly during their triumphant title run-in.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is often very guarded with regards to his players' injury concerns and has generally kept information about Saka's condition in-house.

But Tuchel's admission the 24-year-old has to be managed through at least part of the World Cup has thrust the winger's fitness into the limelight.

Tuchel's latest comments appear to show that the German is protecting Saka, knowing the winger will likely be a crucial asset during the latter stages of the tournament - but could also start against Ghana if required.
