Daniel: How big of a loss would Elliot Anderson be to Nottingham Forest? Do you think it'll be more than Morgan Gibbs-White would've been last summer? I think so...

Elliot Anderson has been one of Nottingham Forest's outstanding players since he joined from Newcastle last summer.

Nikola Milenkovic won the club's Player of the Year award last term but Anderson pushed him close and has already won Forest's Player of the Month award twice this season.

He has missed just one league game since moving to the City Ground, drives Forest both defensively and going forward, and is one of the players who has adapted quickly to what Ange Postecoglou requires.

Anderson also played the full 90 minutes in England's win over Latvia on Tuesday, while Morgan Gibbs-White stayed on the bench. Anderson completed 115 passes in the opposition half, compared to just 66 made by the entire Latvia team in England's half.

He has won 56.4% of his ground duels and 57.9% of his aerial ones, the highest of anyone who has played every Premier League game for Nottingham Forest this season.

Gibbs-White remains crucial but Ange Postecoglou has refused to put a ceiling on Anderson, whose trajectory has been a surprise. He is vital and a player that can dig the club and Postecoglou out of trouble.

Mason: Is there an update on Cole Palmer's injury?

BBC Sport understands Cole Palmer remains out for "weeks", which means he will unavailable until November.

His injury will rule him out of matches against Nottingham Forest, Ajax, Sunderland and Wolves throughout October.

Adrian: If Crystal Palace beat Bournemouth this weekend, are they back in the Champions League race conversation?

This is such unchartered territory for Palace, so I don't think you can actively say they are in the hunt for Champions League football just yet.

This is their first ever season in European competition.

In the final 20 minutes of their loss to Everton, it looked as though the players tired.

The bigger test will be how they perform in their league games directly after playing in Europe.

They don't have a massive squad, but it is right to say a win against Bournemouth would have their league position looking healthy and have their fans dreaming.

Fulham manager Marco Silva gives instructions to KevinImage source, Getty Images

Laura: A concerned Fulham fan here. Do you think we are in trouble? There are several injuries to key players, we haven't got a fit striker (or at least not one Marco Silva wants to play), we have a difficult run of fixtures and we are bottling almost every lead we have.

Hiya Laura. Marco Silva made it pretty clear he wasn't happy with the way the club went about their business in the summer transfer window, and it feels the effect of doing business on deadline day lingered into the series of matches between the first two international breaks, as the players had to get fit and get used to playing with their new team-mates.

That said, Fulham deserved more than a point against Manchester United. The PGMOL have admitted they wrongly disallowed their opening goal at Chelsea, and they led at Aston Villa and Bournemouth before eventually losing.

Even three points from that tale of woes would have pushed Fulham well into the top half of the table.

If club-record signing Kevin settles down and produces performances somewhere near the levels his £34.6m fee suggests he is worth, it will clearly help.

But Fulham have shown a capacity to challenge bigger clubs already this season, so I don’t view their position as negatively as you appear to.

  7. 'Competitive' Wolves will pose 'a tough challenge'published at 13:10 BST 16 October 2025

Sunderland v Wolves (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Sunderland

Sunderland boss Regis le Bris on taking on bottom-of-the-table Wolves: "They struggled at the start of this season, but they have shown that they are really competitive in their last two games. They didn't win, but they deserved to win against Brighton and Tottenham because they played well.

"They have good players, good energy and they are well-coached. This is just the way of the Premier League, you can struggle even if you're strong. If you don't catch your opportunities then you will be punished, so I hope we will be able to score twice and win this game.

"I do expect it to be a tough challenge."

On whether it will be a 'must not lose' fixture: "Every game is an opportunity to pick up points. Even if you play against a really strong team, you try to win. Our mindset is to try to win points and, if it's possible, to do it quickly."

  8. Ghisolfi and Speakman 'working really hard to evolve Sunderland'published at 13:05 BST 16 October 2025

Sunderland v Wolves (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Sunderland

Sunderland boss Regis le Bris on the club losing their Head of Player Recruitment Stuart Harvey last week: "His departure is part of the evolution and the journey of the club, and his own journey as well. He was really important for the club. We worked together last season and the outcome was really positive, but the club is evolving. We need to accept these different decisions.

"Florent [Ghisolfi] and Kristjaan [Speakman] are working really hard to evolve the club, and we will probably have a different structure in place in the next couple of months."

  9. 'Ballard is always ready to play'published at 13:00 BST 16 October 2025

Sunderland boss Regis le Bris on Northern Ireland centre-back Dan Ballard's recent impressive performances for club and country: "He was really close to our squad at the start of this season, but after that he got an injury and another player came in and played well. It was good news for our squad because competition is needed at this level to push the players.

"He plays at a high level and he is always ready to play, so that's always a positive for a manager."

  10. Sadiki 'seems okay' but Alderete 'will be assessed again'published at 12:55 BST 16 October 2025

Sunderland v Wolves (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Sunderland

Sunderland boss Regis le Bris on the injuries Noah Sadiki and Omar Alderete picked up while on international duty: "We checked Noah yesterday and he seems okay. We will see after the training sessions, today and tomorrow, if he will be available for this weekend - but we are positive.

"It's still possible that his injury is worse than we think but, at the minute, he is okay. He has had this injury before so he knows how it evolves and how serious it is. It's positive at the minute, but we will see.

"Omar has just come off a 20-hour flight, so we will see. We will assess him again this afternoon. We already had a chat with him yesterday which was positive. We just have to wait a bit to assess him."

It is possible that both players could feature this weekend, and there are no other injury or fitness concerns ahead of the match.

Sunderland's impressive run of four games unbeaten in the Premier League came to a grinding halt at Old Trafford just before the international break.

The Black Cats had scooped up 11 points from their opening six league games, but manager Regis le Bris admitted he got his tactics wrong against Ruben Amorim's side.

Speaking after the match, Le Bris said: "We didn't start well, it's a bit disappointing because we had good ambition here."

Sunderland had only conceded four goals in six matches before Manchester United struck twice in just 31 minutes, forcing the boss to make a substitutional change just 37 minutes into the match.

The Black Cats will be looking to improve their away form, after failing to score in three of their four away games in the Premier League this season, but will take comfort in being back on home turf at the Stadium of Light this weekend.

  13. 'An intelligent defender with real strength and versatility'published at 12:40 BST 16 October 2025

    Arsenal

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta expressed his delight after Arsenal completed the loan signing of Piero Hincapie.

"We are delighted to have completed the loan signing for the season of Piero Hincapie," Berta said.

"At only 23, Piero already has significant experience, both in the Bundesliga and at international level. He is an intelligent defender with real strength and versatility.

"His performances in recent years for both club and country have been of a consistent high quality, and we are confident Piero will continue to grow this season and be an important player for us."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta added: "Piero has a real physical presence, with his versatility and tactical flexibility giving us strong added defensive options.

"He is a big character, with a very good combination of both youth and maturity. He will make our squad stronger and more competitive as we continue into this season."

  14. Who is Arsenal defender Hincapie?published at 12:36 BST 16 October 2025

Arsenal completed the signing of defender Piero Hincapie on deadline day from Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

The Gunners agreed a fee of £45m (52m euros) for the Ecuador international should they want to sign him permanently next summer.

Hincapie made 166 appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen after joining in 2021 and was part of the squad that won the Bundesliga and German Cup in 2023-24.

The 23-year-old has featured just once for the Gunners since his arrival due to injury and is yet to make his debut in the Premier League.

That could change this weekend with the central defender back in training for the first time since September.

  16. Mainoo and Zirkzee need to playpublished at 12:28 BST 16 October 2025

Liverpool v Man Utd (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport Manchester United reporter

With no European football to fill their midweeks, it always felt to me as though a couple of players in Manchester United's squad might struggle to play many matches.

That has been exacerbated by their shock EFL Cup defeat at Grimsby in August.

Young defenders Ayden Heaven and Tyler Fredricson have not had many minutes at any level but further forward the problem is more acute for Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee, who are at risk of missing the World Cup.

Mainoo has actually featured in United's last five Premier League games - but completed a combined total of 113 minutes. Zirkzee's three appearances in that time totalled 74 minutes, but only 15 since the 3-2 win over Burnley in August.

It is not enough for either, which is why they have both been heavily linked with moves away from United in January.

    There is a significant caveat.

Between the beginning of December and the first week in January, there are three midweek Premier League fixtures, when United's squad depth will be tested.

Then, from 21 December to 18 January it is the Africa Cup of Nations, when Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui are likely to be on duty for Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Morocco respectively.

Mainoo and Zirkzee are likely to be needed then by Ruben Amorim, so it may be the end of January before their futures are decided.

  17. Postpublished at 12:24 BST 16 October 2025

Ruben Amorim may be safe for now, but it's worth remembering that the last three managers to be sacked by Manchester United have been shown the door before Christmas.

Erik ten Hag - sacked on 28 October, 2024

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - sacked on 21 November, 2021

Jose Mourinho - sacked on 18 December, 2018

Rehan: Hi there, how long do you think Ruben Amorim has left before he gets the sack? Also what is your prediction for Man Utd v Liverpool?

Hiya Rehan. Well I don't think he is safe for three years, as minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe suggested in his interview with The Times last week, but his words should at least mean there is a period of calm.

A defeat on Sunday shouldn't bring the same feeling of impeding doom that followed the loss at Brentford last month.

While I'm sceptical of Ratcliffe's timescale, I do think United's hierarchy want to give Amorim time. But everyone knows results have to improve.

For the past two seasons, they have collected a single point from their next four fixtures; Liverpool (a), Brighton (h), Forest (a), Tottenham (a). That is not acceptable for a club of United's size and they have to do better than that this time around.

As for Sunday, there is huge pressure on Liverpool - and therefore a huge incentive for United. Is there a better place for Amorim to secure that elusive second successive Premier League win?

It will be a tough game though, and a lot will depend on how United cope in midfield.

  19. Man Utd training: Fernandes, Casemiro, Amad & Cunha not involvedpublished at 12:13 BST 16 October 2025

Liverpool v Man Utd (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport Manchester United reporter

Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha, Amad and Casemiro missed Manchester United training this morning as the quartet were given extra time off by manager Ruben Amorim.

The quartet were not pictured in this morning's session, part of which was filmed by Sky Sports.

United take on Liverpool on Sunday as they look to win back-to-back matches in the Premier League for the first time this season.

Amorim is likely to be without Noussair Mazraoui, who has missed the last two matches with what has been described as a minor injury.

The Morocco defender didn't play in his country's World Cup qualifier with Congo on Monday.

Lisandro Martinez wasn't there either but he is edging closer to a return after major knee surgery and it will be interesting to see if he makes a matchday squad before the November international break.

Shea Lacey, Jim Thwaites and Jack Fletcher were amongst the youngsters involved, while Ayden Heaven missed out after he was taken off at half-time of England's Under-20 international defeat by Switzerland last Friday.

  20. Hincapie back from injurypublished at 12:05 BST 16 October 2025

    Alex Howell
    BBC Sport Arsenal reporter

Piero Hincapie is back in training following injury.

The defender picked up the issue after his debut for the club in the win over Athletic Club in the Champions League.

Manager Mikel Arteta revealed the Ecuador international had a groin surgery earlier in the summer while with Bayer Leverkusen and that the 23-year-old had small problem there before the international break.

However, Arteta said he expected Hincapie back available once the window was over and as he is training he looks to be available for selection.

Arteta will give more details about Hincapie availability at his news conference tomorrow morning.
