Wonderful footwork from Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers sees him dance past two Lille challenges, and it takes another three men to stop him. But he then has the ball again shortly afterwards and angles a low shot across the face of goal, but wide of the post.

Tiago Santos does well on right-hand side and whips it in - Lille really should be getting something on the end of that. A younger Olivier Giroud is getting that in the back of the net.

Tiago Santos crosses from the right side of the pitch, Giroud gets in front of marker Ezri Konsa and produces a glancing diving header, but it just does not have enough weight or direction to make it into the back of the net.
Soon after Romain Perraud, another player with Premier League experience following a spell at Southampton, strikes from distance and the ball is moving all over the place. In the end, Emiliano Martinez does well to get down to his left and get two hands to it to make a fine save.

Douglas Luiz is really important in the base of midfield for Aston Villa. He has a really good passing range.
They need crisp passing to go right through the heart of the Lille midfield. Just a bit more composure and quality.

I get Jon's point (18:07), but what Emery is trying to do is coach his structure into a new starting XI. Takes time, but the payoff is massive. Can't rely on two to three key players all season.

It is the correct decision as the ball underneath his foot, not an opposing leg, was the reason why Bogarde fell over.

A nervous moment for Villa as Ngal'Ayel Mukau shoots just wide from near the penalty spot, but it wouldn't have counted anyway as the flag is then raised for offside before Mukau got the ball.

Lille are yet to really penetrate Aston Villa and are happy to sit back. They need to make the most of home advantage.

Better from Aston Villa as Jadon Sancho slides it to Morgan Rogers, but the England man, on the right side of the penalty area, puts too much on to the ball into the middle and it goes harmlessly behind for a goal kick.

It feels really like the season ended for Villa when Kamara got injured. The squad has little depth and recent performances are very poor. I do hope Villa prove me wrong tonight! A lot of players with a lot to prove in the team.

Nottingham Forest and FC Midtjylland have already faced in the UEFA Europa League this season, with the Danish side beating Ange Postecoglou’s Forest side 3-2 at the City Ground in October.
FC Midtjylland have won four of their nine matches against English sides in all European competitions (D2 L3), with all four wins coming against different clubs (Man City, Southampton, Man Utd, Nottingham Forest).
Nottingham Forest have a 65% win ratio in the first legs of major European knockout ties (won 15/23, D3 L5), beating Fenerbahçe 3-0 in the first leg of this season’s play-offs.
FC Midtjylland have won 11 of their last 13 matches in European competition (inc. qualifiers), although the two games they haven’t won in that run are their two most recent away games (D1 L1).
Igor Jesus has seven goals in the UEFA Europa League this season, the most ever by a Nottingham Forest player in a single major European season. The last time a player had more goals in a Europa League season for an English club was in 2018-19 – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for Arsenal (8) and Olivier Giroud for Chelsea (11).
