    Findlay Curtis

Named in the last squad for the March friendlies against Japan and Ivory Coast - making his debut off the bench in the former - Findlay Curtis has propelled himself into the squad with sensational post-split form at Kilmarnock.

With four goals in five games for Neil McCann's side, the on-loan Rangers winger has captured the imagination of fans far beyond Ayrshire. He has also starred when Steve Clarke has been in the crowd at Rugby Park.

"It's very early in his career to be going to a World Cup, but we just don't have enough players throughout the squad who can come on and influence a game with that sort of pace and directness," said Sportscene pundit Scott Allan.

"He is someone who can get you up the pitch."

The loyalty to players that have been bit-part and fringe players this season/or serious injury doubts over guys that have done it week in, week out is shocking.

    Ian

Squad is a joke - Souttar, Hanley and Ralston are shocking picks. Better players who merit a call-up way more.

    Richard

Cannot fathom taking Ralston. Ross McCrorie can cover the same position and a few more. Ralston can't get a game for Celtic.

    Ten defenders to be exact.

As Tom points out, three of them are right-backs.

Both Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson have endured fitness issues this season, so I'm going to assume that's down to that.

  5. Should Stewart start?published at 11:15 BST 19 May

I'm delighted for Ross Stewart. He's had incredibly bad luck with injuries.

Every time he's played, he's been very good. He's a realistic option to start.

The three right-backs is maybe a reflection that Steve Clarke is worried about injury there. It is a lot of defenders.

I know Lennon Miller personally, so I'm gutted for him.

We are taking that fifth striker, and Ross Stewart deserves it.

  7. No Miller in squadpublished at 11:10 BST 19 May

    There's disappointment for a fellow 19-year-old, though.

Udinese midfielder Lennon Miller doesn't make it.

    Findlay Curtis, man.

Imagine you told that young fella he was going to a World Cup when he left Rangers to join Kilmarnock on loan just a few months ago.

    Incredible.

  9. Gordon makes itpublished at 11:05 BST 19 May

Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon, who has been working his way back to fitness, makes the squad.

He hasn't played a minute of football since a 2-2 draw with Celtic in January.

What a story that would be in the 43-year-old's career if he turns out at a World Cup.

  10. Stewart INpublished at 11:03 BST 19 May

    Wow, OK.

Ross Stewart makes it off the back of an excellent 2026 with Southampton.

He has two caps for his country, both as a substitute in 2022.

Craig Brown and Ally McCoist stayed on good terms

Let's rewind almost 30 years ago to when a Scotland boss last had to worry about this.

The most recent Scotland World Cup squad announcement came with a surprise, as Ally McCoist was left out of France '98 by the late, great Craig Brown.

The Rangers striker, then 35, had scored 15 goals in his final season of a record-breaking Rangers career.

McCoist had scored 19 goals in 59 games for his country to that point, but had not featured since September 1997. He played two more games for his country later that year.

Brown - speaking in 2018 - said he felt "great regret" over his decision not to pick McCoist.

Will there be any shock omissions this time?

I bet the footballers are following this!

    Yusuf

In similar high-stakes toddler negotiations with son, Aidan, who was born the day after our draw with Switzerland in Euro '24. He's succeeded in getting Bing on the TV while I am watching the squad announcement on the laptop!

    Colin

We all know who 95% of the squad will be. There’s no surprises with Clarke anymore. Any late/surprise picks will get no more than five minutes each game anyway.

  18. Stewart or McBurnie to capitalise on Conway injury?published at 10:41 BST 19 May

Tommy Conway is a serious doubt after suffering an injury in Middlesborough's play-off defeat to Southampton

Southampton's Ross Stewart has enjoyed a superb 2026 since missing a huge chunk of the first half of the season with a hamstring injury.

With five goals in his last 10 - including in the Saints' much-talked about Championship promotion play-off semi-final against Middlesbrough - the 29-year-old is in fine form.

The two-cap striker - who last played for Scotland in 2022 - has the play-off final to look forward to, where he will come up against fellow World Cup wannabe Oli McBurnie.

Much like Stewart, the Hull City frontman has had a fruitful campaign, with 18 goals in 41 appearances.

The 29-year-old revealed last month he phoned Steve Clarke asking for the reasons behind his absence from the international set-up.

The in-form pair have dominated recent discourse among the Tartan Army and their respective cases have strengthened with an untimely injury for Boro forward Tommy Conway.

The 22-year-old limped off in tears, 73 minutes into last Tuesday's defeat to Stewart's Saints and though his club have not released details of his injury, there is wide belief he will miss out.

After back-to-back 1-0 defeats in March in friendlies against Japan and the Ivory Coast, there was chat about Scotland's lack of cutting edge.

It's easy to forget that Lawrence Shankland was missing for those matches as he made his return from injury, but those losses still also led to chat about Steve Clarke's striking options.

The names of Ross Stewart and Oli McBurnie have come up a bit.

After the squad is revealed, Scotland boss Steve Clarke is expected to face the media at 12:00 BST.

That's not a guarantee, these things can often get delayed.

We're also hoping to stream the head coach's presser right here and on the iPlayer, providing we don't have any technical difficulties.

    Fingers crossed.
