Stockport County
Dave Challinor speaks ahead of Sunday's promotion play-off final against Bolton.
There are a few groups of supporters who can claim to have been through the mill over the past few years - Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry City and Luton Town immediately spring to mind but there will be plenty more laying claim to the mantle of being 'hard done by' including Stockport County.
In 1998 they finished eighth in what we now call the Championship but 16 years later they were coming 14th in National North after a disastrous period which saw them fall out of the EFL into the second tier of non-league football and even have to go part-time.
So, here they are with a chance to right a few wrongs, led by Dave Challinor, the man who brought them back into the League and has already won seven promotions in his managerial career.
"A whole host of people work so hard and go through so much to give ourselves the opportunity and we have to now make sure we do all we can to grab it," Challinor told BBC Radio Manchester.
"I played in the last Championship game that Stockport County played (a 2-0 loss at Norwich in 2002) - from that point on the suporters have been through relegations, promotions, administration but since the owners came in six years ago everything has been on the up again.
"When I first came here you might say you're surprised we've got to this stage but it was part of the owners' plan when they first came into the football club."
From player to manager, Dave Challinor can write himself into Stockport County folklore this afternoon, although he might already be there...
