Wealdstone will hope lightning strikes twice this afternoon in Cleethorpes.

The Stones beat Grimsby at Blundell Park 1-0 in the FA Cup first round last season as they travel to Lincolnshire in a repeat fixture today looking to reach the third round for the first time in 47 years.

Sam Cox's side are going well in the league as well, currently sitting ninth in the National League, as the former Guyana international and Ted Lasso actor continues to impress in his second spell in charge of the club.

Grimsby, meanwhile, sit 12th in League Two, and have had nine days to get over their last-gasp 2-1 defeat at home to Tranmere Rovers last Thursday night.

David Artell's side have pulled off a cup shock of their own this season, famously dumping Manchester United out of the Carabao Cup in August, but will hope to play the reverse role of party-pooper this afternoon to help set up another potentially mouth-watering third round tie against one of the Premier League big-boys in the new year.

National League North side Buxton travel to League Two strugglers Cheltenham Town this afternoon hoping to secure their first appearance in the FA Cup third round since 1951-52.

The Bucks secured their place in the second round thanks to a stunning, 'Roy of the Rovers'-style strike from captain Connor Kirby in the 114th minute, clinching a 2-1 victory against Chatham Town after extra time.

Buxton currently sit 13th in the sixth tier, 39 places behind today's current opponents in the football pyramid, having taken their eye of the ball in the league - losing five of their past six in National League North since their first round win on 1 November.

They face a Cheltenham side who currently sit just one point above the League Two relegation places and who have lost six of their previous seven FA Cup ties at this stage of the competition.

Steve Cotterill's men will be looking to avoid a repeat of their defeat to seventh-tier Alvechurch three years ago, having also been eliminated from five of their last seven FA Cup ties when playing against non-league opposition.

Can Buxton make it six out of eight by 5pm today?

Swindon Town are proving themselves to be big fish in the League Two pond but the FA Cup - well, that's got much bigger beasts lurking.

Case in point is today's opponents Bolton, who are competing at the top end of the league Swindon are currently vying for a place in and on an eight match undefeated streak across all competitions.

However, the Robins can take some confidence from the fact that they've already toppled one League One opponent in Peterborough as recently as Tuesday in the EFL Trophy.

Can they make it a double upset to prove that they shouldn't be underestimated?

"We've got a massive challenge on our hands," Swindon boss Ian Holloway told BBC Radio Wiltshire.

"Two games in a row against a higher level which we are trying to aspire to be and to play like. It's a big, big ask.

"For me, it's a two free hits. To see if I can get our lads to understand what I want them to do."

Prepare for some history. This afternoon marks the first time Fleetwood and Luton have ever met in the FA Cup proper and both will want to draw first blood.

But it's more than just a league position advantage that Luton hold over the Cods.

Only once have Fleetwood beaten a higher opponent in an FA Cup tie out of their five past instances, while Luton have only lost once to a lower opponent out of their 18.

Can Fleetwood match the feat Grimsby Town pulled off a few short seasons ago? Cods boss Pete Wild is certainly up for the challenge.

"Luton are arguably the biggest team in it from where they've been in recent history, so when you pull Luton out the hat you think you've got the biggest team in it at home, fantastic," Wild told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"It's probably the best team you could pull out the hat at this point of the competition."
