Arsenal go close. Bukayo Saka runs into the box and rolls the ball across the six-yard box which anyone could knock into the net but nobody does and Timothy Castagne clears.

Everton

Everton boss David Moyes speaking to PLP: "Pleased with a lot of the performance. We did well until the first goal then giving away the second made it hard for us but a lot of good things in the game. We kept it at 0-0 in the first half and we didn't give them many opportunities. They had played well but we had a couple of really good chances, Beto should score the second one I think and I think we had a couple of big opportunities."

On Beto potential: "Beto is not potential, he's been here and scored goals in the Premier League last season. I expect him to score and he does as well. He's a hard worker and wants to do well for the team."

On City goals: "Disappointed we allowed a pass to go through that O'Reilly goes onto. In that moment we got caught with a pass that cut them open. The centre halves did well but [Michael] Keane could've stayed with Haaland a bit more. The second goal a bit the same, we tried to double up on Savinho and in doing so we leave Haaland in space which is never good. He didn't connect well but a goal is a goal.

"We want to challenge the best teams and we've challenged City today. We didn't get a result today but we're getting closer. For us to be keeping above drowning which we are doing, for long periods we did well."

Sunderland’s superb home form continues but sitting back and inviting pressure almost cost them.

Better teams would’ve punished Regis Le Bris’s side and Wolves’s Jackson Tchatchoua had a brilliant one on one chance late on when it was still 1-0.

The home fans were getting frustrated with Sunderland’s approach at times, but there’s no frustration for them now.

What a start to the season for this club. The place was bouncing at full-time.

It’s not often a player scores a hat-trick, but is disappointed and apologises to his teammates in the dressing room after, but that’s what Jean-Phillipe Mateta did after this incredible encounter, having missed a stoppage time sitter to win it just after netting his treble.

Olivier Glasner also told me independent of the result, he was delighted by the character and belief the Palace players showed on both occasions when trailing, while Andoni Iraola fumed about the late penalty Palace were awarded to make it 3-3, he also acknowledged a draw was probably a fair result.

Burnley

Burnley boss Scott Parker speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I thought the performance was everything we planned. They are a hugely competitive team and we experienced that last year, we went toe to toe with Leeds throughout last year. I thought our performance was everything we needed to take three points.

"We've tried to be flexible in our structures and we have worked tirelessly to do that. We swapped to a back four today and tried to have more attackers on the pitch and first half we took our moments and got a good goal. Second half we had to suffer a little bit and again you go into reserves when you need to dig a bit deep to get the result and the second goal gave us some oxygen. I'm immensely proud of the team.

"We spent a long 10 days during the international break highlighting times where we have fallen short on that [concentration]. One thing you can never point a finger at this team for, and I will never point the finger for this, is effort, desire, passion and commitment. These players give that every single week.

"We have probably lacked a bit of nous at times in certain moments but today that game was every bit of that. I don't care what coach is standing here, when there is 10-15 minutes to go in that game there isn't a plan. You can't influence it from the sidelines. You need your players to understand what's needed. You can bring the best structures and formations in the world, the facts are that you need players to go to places that you can't coach."
