For just the third time in his Liverpool career (428 games) Mohamed Salah scored a goal, provided an assist and won a penalty in a single game, with the previous two instances coming against Newcastle and Arsenal in back-to-back games in December 2018.

Mohamed Salah is back on the pitch clapping the home fans. He got a standing ovation at Anfield when he came off earlier after a brilliant performance that included a goal and an assist.

How long ago did he do that mixed zone interview at Leeds? Everything looks rosy again at present.

Brighton have had two spells in the game where they have looked the better team, from the off in the first half, and a couple of minutes at the start of the second.

Other than that Liverpool have bossed this game. They have been in charge and they have looked like a team of champions that are slowly regaining their form.

Brighton are trying to finish with a flourish and Kaoru Mitoma smashes a shot straight into Alisson's midriff.

Mats Wieffer who has not long come on for Jack Hinshelwood has a pop from 25-yards but it's a poor effort that he drags well wide of the Liverpool goal.

Pascal Gross drives through midfield before being pulled down. There has not really been anywhere near enough of that from Brighton.

Ngumoha is not offside. There is a Brighton defender deeper on this near side. It is a very, very close call. The youngster is very unlucky.

It's a great finish, clears his feet and curls it beyond Steele and inside the far corner.

The hosts have the ball in the back of the Brighton net again as Rio Ngumoha picks his spot in the far right corner but he is flagged offside.

The replay suggests he is very unfortunate that goal has not counted.

It's not been a good evening for Brighton. Early on they started well and I thought we were in for a real game tonight. They didn't look like they were struggling.

Liverpool have just asserted their dominance and in all honesty they have just been the better team.
