  2. Shelbourne sign defender Casey from Cliftonvillepublished at 14:26 GMT 17 January

League of Ireland Premier Division side Shelbourne have signed Cliftonville defender Odhran Casey for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old centre-back, who can also play in midfield, has been capped by Northern Ireland at under-21 level and becomes Joey O'Brien's fifth signing at Tolka Park.

Casey - who had been linked with Derry City and Coleraine - made his debut for the Reds in 2019 and went on to play 143 times for the club following a successful loan spell at Newry City in the Championship during the 2021-22 campaign.

He won the Irish Cup and BetMcLean Cup during his time at Solitude and established himself as key defender under boss Jim Magilton, captaining the side on his last appearance in a 2-2 draw against Ballymena United on Tuesday night.

"I've loved my time at Cliftonville and would like to thank all the managers and coaches who have helped me become the player I am today," he told the Cliftonville website.

"I've always been proud to play for the Reds and have great memories from the last seven years with the first team as well as during my time coming through the academy.

"Every young player grows up dreaming of being a full-time footballer and I'm no different. The chance to join Shelbourne and make that dream come true is one I couldn't turn down and that's why I was so keen to get the deal done and make the move.

"I want to thank the Cliftonville fans for their support and I wish Jim, Skin [Gerard Lyttle] and all the players in the dressing room the best of luck for the rest of the season and in the future."

  4. Larne 'not ruthless enough' against Blues - Haveronpublished at 14:19 GMT 17 January

    Friday result: Linfield 0-0 Larne

Larne manager Gary Haveron says the playing conditions were "really difficult" during his side's 0-0 draw with Linfield at Windsor Park.

The result means that the Inver Reds extend their lead at the top of the table to 11 points and are now unbeaten in their last 15 league matches.

Haveron's side had chances of their own early in the game but, in the final 15 minutes, relied on stopper Rohan Ferguson to keep the game goalless.

"Should have won it, could have lost it," Gary Haveron told BBC Sport NI.

"We want to be brave when we come to places like here, but we lost our way for the last 10/15minutes. It's a disappointing way to finish the game.

"You need to be ruthless in this league and, to be a top side, you have to be really, really ruthless and we just weren't ruthless tonight."

  5. Healy left 'frustrated' with Larne stalematepublished at 14:15 GMT 17 January

    Friday result: Linfield 0-0 Larne

Linfield manager David Healy says it was "frustrating we haven't won" as his side had to settle for a scoreless draw at home to league leaders Larne on Friday.

The result saw Larne increase their lead at the top to 11 points with Linfield 16 behind, albeit with a game in hand, and Healy felt his side could have found a winner late on.

Euan East was forced off in the first half with an injury as Darragh Leahy came on for his debut and while Healy took come positives from the game, he was nonetheless disappointed his side could claim the three points.

"We've done enough to win, especially late on, but realistically, Larne are the in-form team in the league and we're all chasing them," the Linfield manager told BBC Sport NI.

"The two injuries we received early certainly didn't help us, but the subs came on with Darragh on for his debut [were a positive]. I was wary of starting Dara tonight having not played since late October.

"I was pleased with the effort, pleased with the performance, but frustrated and disappointed we haven't won the game."

  6. Larne increase lead at top with draw against Bluespublished at 14:09 GMT 17 January

    Friday result: Linfield 0-0 Larne

Larne extended their lead at the top of the Irish Premiership to 11 points with a 0-0 draw against Linfield at Windsor Park.

In a game of few chances, Linfield upped the tempo in the final 15 minutes with Rohan Ferguson forced to make a crucial save to deny Charlie Allen's effort.

Minutes later, the Larne stopper was called into action once again to deny debutant Darragh Leahy and Matthew Fitzpatrick.

The result means that there is now 16 points between the Inver Reds and Linfield in fourth.
