Could this be the start of an exciting new era for Kelty?

The Scottish League 1 strugglers were recently bought by an American consortium, led by the former owner of Danish second-tier club Helsingor.

That man is businessman Jordan Gardner, who just told BBC Scotland that the aim is to make Kelty the "best part-time club in the country".

He also has potential long-term ambitions to make the club full time.

Elgin manager Allan Hale tells BBC Scotland, "It's a huge occasion. It's been 50 years since Elgin last hosted a last-16 game, so that tells you how difficult it is to get to the stage, but we've earned our place here today.

"I don't see why we can't get to the next round. Of course, a lot of things have to go in our favour, we have to have a really good day and Thistle need to have an off day.

"We know that we're realistic about things, we've trained really hard all week and hopefully that can be shown today.

"I think financially the club would have preferred to get drawn away from home and draw a big gun, which would have set the club up pretty well for the next few years. Hopefully for the majority of the game is going to be uncomfortable for Thistle.

"I don't think you need to overthink these games, you need to have trust in what you do because if you don't, what's the point?

"The pressure is not on us, it's on the Championship team to come here and win this game comfortably. But in football, anything is possible, so that'll be the message going into the game."

St Mirren overcame a very tricky tie at Airdrieonians, Roland Idowu scoring late in extra time to secure progression into the quarter-finals.

Idowu had been denied by a superb Harry Stone save at 1-1 and soon flashed another effort wide, but he struck firmly off a long ball in the 115th minute to secure a deserved win for the League Cup holders.

On-loan Manchester United midfielder Jacob Devaney lifted a delightful shot beyond Stone to give St Mirren a first-half lead, which was cancelled out by Euan Henderson's well taken shot on the run after the break - his 17th goal this term.

But the Buddies merited the victory after mounting pressure in extra time. They will find out their last-eight opponents in Sunday's draw.

Partick Thistle boss Mark Wilson tells BBC Scotland: "I think in these cup ties anything can happen, especially when you're playing against lower-league opposition.

"There's always the case that the team in the lower league have nothing to lose, so they can throw anything at you.

"We understand that being away from home brings its own challenge, and we've been good at sticking to our principles all season, so hopefully, if we do that, we give ourselves the best chance of getting into the next round.

"Whether you're the underdog or the favourite, you have to approach it the right way. The price is so great that we have to be very concentrated in our efforts today.

"Full concentration and, of course, full respect for Elgin and be ready for whatever threats they might have."

Borough Briggs is the venue for this Scottish Cup tie, and both teams will see this as a great opportunity to get themselves through to the quarters.

While it might not quite fall into the David and Goliath category, it would still have to go down as a real shock if League 2 strugglers Elgin can knock out the Championship's high-flying Partick Thistle.

Elgin are third bottom in the fourth tier, so this will be a welcome break from their league travails. And with the pressure off, and with home advantage, they will feel there is absolutely no reason why they can’t spring a surprise and set up a potentially money-spinning last-eight tie and reach the quarters for the first time since 1968.

As for Partick Thistle, of course this is a game that can be labelled as a potential banana skin.

Yes, it is away from home, but having avoided all the big guns who are still in the competition, they couldn’t have asked for much more in the draw.

One interesting side note, this is actually the first time these two sides have ever contested a competitive match against each other.

Dunfermline Athletic manager Neil Lennon tells BBC Scotland: "The weather has pattered the pitch. We re-laid it this season so it's in pretty condition.

"There's plenty of grass on it, but down the sides we've had to put sand down. We can't complain about the pitch, it's as good as any in the country this time of year.

"We got to a point where we were really consistent and mentally strong, and then we didn't turn up last week for whatever reason.

"Maybe we're not there yet. Maybe we're going to have a bump in the road, but we can't have too many.

"It's an opportunity. Not many of our players will have been in this position before. We've got to win today and not try to over-egg the occasion."

Dunfermline pulled off the shock of the round last month, Neil Lennon beating his former club Hibs thanks to a late, late own goal at a bouncing East End Park.

In their two games since, they have beaten second-tier leaders St Johnstone away but then suffered defeat at home to struggling Airdrieonians.

Kelty, meanwhile, beat Cove Rangers on penalties to reach this stage. The cup gives them a welcome break from league duty, given they are currently bottom of League 1.

Elsewhere, Elgin beat Camelon Juniors to set up their tie with promotion-pushing Partick Thistle, who dispatched Montrose at home.

Dundee United against Spartans became the latest Scottish Cup fifth-round to suffer a postponement because of a waterlogged pitch.

Aberdeen's meeting with Motherwell on Saturday evening was called off on Friday. That one has been moved to Wednesday, 18 February.

And now due to "continuous, torrential rainfall", the game at Tannadice has succumbed to adverse weather and has been rearranged for Tuesday, 17 February.
