Morgan Cross' first-half goal won 10-player Celtic the Women's Scottish Cup final as profligate Rangers were made to rue a series of missed chances at Hampden.

Cross slid home Saoirse Noonan's wonderful cross on 26 minutes after Rangers winger Mia McAulay had hit the post at the other end.

Leanne Crichton's side - who missed an opportunity to win the SWPL title last weekend - dominated possession throughout the opening 45 minutes, but were unable to find a way past Celtic goalkeeper Adelaide Gay.

Play continued in much the same vein after the half-time interval, with Gay called into action on multiple occasions.

Grant Scott's side posed a threat on the counter-attack with substitute Jenny Smith forcing a fine save from Jenna Fife.

However, Celtic's task was made more difficult when Scotland defender Emma Lawton was shown a second yellow card on 58 minutes for halting Calliste Brookshire's forward progress.

Rangers piled forward in the closing stages and again hit the woodwork when Gay punched a corner onto her own crossbar.

They then felt they should have had a penalty when McAulay went to ground in second-half stoppage-time, but the officials were unmoved.

Celtic had lost to Rangers in all four league meetings this season and were also knocked out of the SWPL Cup by their Glasgow rivals, but stood firm to earn their first derby win over since August 2024.

Crichton's side end the season without silverware after their league heartbreak and losing March's SWPL Cup final to Glasgow City.

What they said

Celtic head coach Grant Scott: "We had to defend for our lives. The players showed such commitment to each other. That's what it's all about.

"I'm very proud of them. They were a proper team today.

"This cup run has been magnificent. The season has not been great, but this salvages something for us."

Rangers head coach Leanne Crichton: "We're frustrated. It's a game we controlled and dominated for the most part.

"Ultimately, it's won and lost in both boxes and there's one moment we don't deal with it and at the top end of the pitch we're not clinical enough, we're not composed enough to make good decisions and maximise the opportunities.

"The game has passed us by, that's the reality. It always felt like there was going to be enough time to get a goal but we didn't manage to do it."
