You could be forgiven for thinking it would be doom and gloom at Wolves after four opening Premier League defeats.

Vitor Pereira's mood and positivity is in contrast to the results, after he signed a new three-year deal this week while Jorgen Strand Larsen has also agreed fresh five-year contract of his own.

Pereira's contract was due to expire at the end of the season anyway, so this ends any uncertainty and indicates Wolves are looking to the future and wanting security and certainty.

The head coach, appointed as Gary O'Neil's successor last December, spoke about the mutual trust he has with the club's hierarchy and how important that connection was for him to commit himself.

His longest spell at a club was three seasons at Shanghai SIPG between 2017 and 2020 and Wolves is his 13th senior role, but the 57-year-old is comfortable and content at Molineux as he looks to put down serious roots.

As for Strand Larsen, the striker's new five-year deal - due to be announced soon - secures Wolves' best goal threat at a time when they need his goals to survive. Leeds are the visitors on Saturday and the striker could feature off the bench after an Achilles injury.

His new deal is no surprise given Newcastle's summer interest and it secures Wolves' asset value too. Unless there is a real drop off in form, they will be able to demand a lot more than the £55m rejected in the summer.

A 14-goal debut season would have been likely to see a new contract regardless, so it is sensible business.
