Plymouth Argyle manager Tom Cleverley says he expects Ukraine defender Maksym Talovierov to leave the club in the next few days.

The 25-year-old centre-back became Argyle's record signing when he moved to Home Park in January from Austrian side LASK.

He played 13 times in all competitions for the Pilgrims and was a key part of the team that beat Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth round, before scoring at Manchester City in Argyle's fifth-round defeat.

He will be the latest high-profile departure following relegation, after Ryan Hardie and Michael Baidoo moved to new clubs.

"We expect Maxi to complete his move away from the club. I think that's 99% done," Cleverley told BBC Sport.

"We don't expect Maxi back in the building - again a player who you can see is quality, he plays for Ukraine and he's trying to get to World Cup.

"He's been very respectful with myself, he's been very respectful with his teammates and if you are unfortunately going to lose a player like Maxi he's certainly done it in a very respectful way and he's gone to the level above, which is the nature of being relegated at times."

Meanwhile, Cleverley says the club has made an offer to former Bristol City midfielder Ayman Benarous.

The 21-year-old has been on trial over the summer at Home Park after his release from the Championship club.

He has not played since April 2022 after suffering serious knee injuries.

But Cleverley says he has been impressed with his versatility and is hopeful he is over the worst of his injury problems.

"He's been very impressive in his trial period. He's had fitness issues in the past that he looks like he's over," said Cleverely.

"In all the physical work we've done he's been really competitive and at the front of that, so he's a player that, for sure, there's a little bit of risk attached with his injury history, but the he's quality shown in the last week far outweighs that risk, in my opinion,

"We'll be delighted if we can come to a deal on that."

The club are also looking to sign a more experienced striker, having added Bim Pepple and Owen Oseni to their squad, while American goalkeeper Tyler Miller is on trial following his release from Notts County.
