Cardiff City winger Tanatswa Nyakuhwa looks set to join Newport County on loan as League Two's bottom club eye four new signings.
Wales Under-21 international Nyakuhwa has featured eight times for League One leaders Cardiff this season.
But the 20-year-old is expected to become Newport's second addition in this window following midfielder Harrison Biggins' loan move from Shrewsbury Town.
Newport are hoping to bring in up to three further new recruits as they attempt to avoid relegation.
Biggins, 29, arrived at Rodney Parade earlier this month having made only six appearances for Newport's relegation rivals this season.
Manager Christian Fuchs has lost midfielder Sammy Braybrooke during this window, with the Leicester youngster joining Chesterfield on loan having impressed during the first half of the campaign at Newport.
Michael Reindorf has also departed, with the 20-year-old forward's year-long loan from Cardiff cut short.
Bluebirds academy product Nyakuhwa was a target for Kilmarnock, Anderlecht and two unnamed EFL clubs in the summer, and is said to have attracted interest from a number of sides in the current transfer window.
Fuchs' side will play for the first time in 16 days when they go to Gillingham on Saturday.
