    Pope lbw b Bamber 20 (Warwicks v Surrey 55-3)

    Ollie PopeImage source, PA Media

    The reprieve didn't last long.

Ethan Bamber is brought back into the attack and repays the faith with his fourth delivery.

He gets one to jag back at Ollie Pope who plays outside the line and is thumped infront of off-stump.

Bowling bonus point for Bears, and it's been their morning.

Dan Lawrence joins Dom Sibley who has 20* from 65 balls.

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:38 BST 3 April

    Haines c Cox b Holland 56 (Leics v Sussex 136-2)

Tom Haines has chanced his arm a few times this morning - but he won't be doing it any more.

Ian Holland starts his second spell of the morning and Haines tries to flash his opening delivery through the covers but edges to the keeper.

James Coles will replace him at the crease.

50 partnership for the former Kings College Southpawspublished at 12:38 BST 3 April

    Som 65-2 v Notts

Just short of second slip off the edge of Josh Thomas' bat, having chopped on twice in the preseason game v Glamorgan, he is playing more inside the line this morning thus far.

Just before the 23rd over is done the former Kings College Southpaws notch the first 50 partnership here this season.

This prompts Haseeb Hameed to bring Dillon Pennington back on for a seventh over from the Marcus Trescothick Pavilion End in place of Rob Lord.

Thrilled to have the County Championship back. Hoping Sussex can start with a bang to overcome the pts deduction asap. Hoping Haines can carry on, but bit worried about Sussex's fortunes if he gets an England call up...

    James, Uckfield

I'd say they have started with a bang, alright, James. The 12-point deficit for financial reasons won't last long if they put together a string of sessions like this morning.

  5. dropped catch

Ollie Pope dropped on 16published at 12:36 BST 3 April

    Warwicks v Surrey 48-2

Skipper Ed Barnard opts to bring himself into the Bears attack and so nearly makes an immediate impact in his first over.

He gets one to drift back and thump the pads of Ollie Pope with his fourth ball, but an inside edge saves Pope.

The next delivery finds the edge just fine but Kai Smith puts down the hard chance, diving full stretch to his right, putting the ball down as he hit the deck. It might have carried to Sam Hain at first slip, that. Frustration for the home side.

Barnard recovers to find the pads again but just outside the line, to end a stellar first over of the summer.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:36 BST 3 April

    Came c Roderick b Taylor 50 (Derbys 82-1 v Worcs)

Harry Came reaches 50 off 74 balls with a glorious straight drive for four off Tom Taylor.

He is gone in Taylor's next over, though, attempting a cover drive and edging a straightforward catch through to the keeper.

  7. 6 runs

    Leics v Sussex 128-1

Sam Wood comes up for his second over, drops short and Tom Clark carves it away over the covers for his second maximum, advancing his score to 42 not out - 22 overs gone at Grace Road.

  8. Postpublished at 12:30 BST 3 April

    Northants v Lancs 72-1

Josh Bohannon absolutely belts that through the covers and lays early claim to the shot of the day. Luke Proctor can only stand and watch that disappear.

Lancashire are rattling along nicely but it is not one-way traffic with Bohannon edging another delivery from Proctor in that over towards fourth slip where it is not taken.

It was low and to the left of fourth to be fair. A difficult chance.

  9. Excellent start by Derbyshirepublished at 12:28 BST 3 April

    Derbys 76-0 v Worcs

    Frank Watson
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

Having lost the toss Derbyshire can be more than happy with their excellent start.

Harry Came and Caleb Jewell have rarely been troubled by a Worcestershire attack which has lacked penetration.

Tom Taylor almost made a breakthrough with the third ball of the day but it wasn’t until the 18th over that a true chance was created when Matthew Waite found the edge of Jewell’s bat but Ethan Brookes couldn’t hold on to the chance at second slip.

Worcestershire desperately need a wicket before lunch.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:28 BST 3 April

    Bedingham c Crawley b Dudgeon 12 (Durham 85-3 v Kent)

David Bedingham has been on nought for near 20 minutes but the eighth ball he faces from Keith Dudgeon is right in the slot and he dispatches it with aplomb through the covers to get off the mark with a four.

His countryman offers him another opportunity with his next delivery and he cashes in again, and then again two balls later, this time driving square to the point boundary.

    BUT HE'S GONE NOW.

The next ball rises and Bedingham can only uppercut straight down the throat of Zak Crawley at first slip.

Kent will take that exchange all day long and twice on Sunday.

    4-4-0-4-W

Graham Clark is the new man, joining Emilo Gay on a breezy 34*. Kent on top once more.

  11. Postpublished at 12:27 BST 3 April

    Som 53-2 v Notts

Whilst former Somerset seamers Ben Green (1-21 off seven), Nathan Gilchrist (0-7 off four), Sonny Baker and Kasey Aldridge (yet to bowl) would all be pretty useful for Somerset in this match, particularly without Lewis Gregory or a second overseas seamer.

Their openers are scrambling through the new ball to try and get somewhere for their new set of seamers to bowl at.

The two former Kings College and Taunton St Andrews left-handers (Josh Thomas now at Thornbury) are battling the slower Notts change bowlers well here.

Lyndon James and Rob Lord are a considerable drop off from Dillon Pennington and Olly Stone. Imagine they two with Brett Hutton and Josh Tongue too, now that is a serious Championship winning bowling attack!

  12. Division Two updatepublished at 12:27 BST 3 April

Gloucestershire have the breakthrough at Lord's with Josh de Caires caught behind down the leg-side off Matt Taylor for 12. Sam Robson is still there on 22 not out and Middlesex are 40-1 in the 21st over.

Harry Came is just four runs short of 50 for Derbyshire, who are 76-0 in the 20th against Worcestershire.

Any chance of an update from Cardiff?

    Connor, Leeds

An early lunch will be taken at 12:30 BST. The umpires are out there having a look as we speak, but we all remain hopeful of some play this afternoon, Connor.

  14. Postpublished at 12:19 BST 3 April

    Warwicks v Surrey 39-2

Surrey are counting down the minutes until lunch.

Rory Burns (4) ran himself out in calamitous circumstances early on and Jamie Smith (9) followed after following a couple of lovely strokes with an ill-advised waft outside off stump, but Ollie Pope and Dom Sibley have not only steadied the ship from 17-2 they have pretty much dropped anchor as the hosts rotate through their bowling options (of which they have many) in search of a third wicket which would surely confirm it as their session.

  15. 50 runs

for Tom Hainespublished at 12:18 BST 3 April

    Leics v Sussex 111-1

    Tom HainesImage source, Shutterstock

Tom Haines pushes Tom Scriven into a gap on the off-side and a single takes him to 50 off 52 balls.

"It's been a swashbuckling, exciting innings which has put Leicestershire on the back foot," says BBC Sussex's Adrian Harms.

  16. Postpublished at 12:17 BST 3 April

    Northants v Lancs 60-1

Back to back boundaries for Luke Wells as Harry Conway struggles to locate the right length first outside off and then drifting a little leg side.

Great comeback though, ball five utterly bamboozling Wells and just missing his outside edge.

The Lancashire opener stares accusingly at the pitch as you do when you don't want to give the bowler any credit whatsoever.

  17. Postpublished at 12:15 BST 3 April

    Leics v Sussex 110-1

    Ben Green take a bow.

He sends down the first maiden of the day at Grace Road to Tom Clark, which is quite a feat given what we have seen so far.

The former Somerset all-rounder's figures of 1-21 from seven are by far and away the best among the Leicestershire attack.

  18. 50 partnership for Sussexpublished at 12:11 BST 3 April

    Leics v Sussex 109-1

    Wow.

Tom Scriven bowls outside off stump and Tom Haines contemptuously flays it through the covers for his 10th boundary of the morning.

He's had one or two slices of luck but the Sussex opener is certainly providing some early-season entertainment at Grace Road as he posts a 50 stand for the second wicket with Tom Clark.

Middlesex and Gloucestershire players line up in memory of Lord's groundsman Mick HuntImage source, Shutterstock

A minute's silence in memory of Lord's groundsman Mick Hunt was impeccably observed before the start of play between Middleex and Gloucestershire.

The home side's openers are still together but there has only been one boundary so far in Middlesex's 27-0 after 17 overs.

At Derby, the home side have brought up their 50 in the 16th over against Worcestershire, with openers Harry Came and Caleb Jewell still together.
