Right, that's it from us for this first Test, folks.

An emphatic win to start the Root 2.0 era - and you can read all about how they achieved it here in Stephan Shemilt's report.

You can also check out Matthew Henry's player ratings here - feel free to let him know how and why he's wrong in the comments.

England are 1-0 up and got this one done in plenty of time so we can all get our FPL teams in order before the Premier League kicks off later.

We'll be back on Thursday to bring you the second Test from Lord's. See you then!

England have got potential in terms of the pace they have. In terms of Robinson, I think he's going to be the key, he offers control, he offers tone setting.

We saw what he had to offer with the new ball, you can't put them in a level until they go away to South Africa and damage them.

We can't get too excited, it's one game of Test cricket into a new start.

Great they've won a game of cricket, there's not one England player or fan that wouldn't have expected them to win but what they've done is completely hammer Pakistan which is what good teams do.

When you get a chance to be ruthless, that's what England have done this week.

I'm taking nothing away from England given the difficulties they've had and coming straight off The Hundred.

The pace that they played at, the mindset, the maturity. It's much more likely to bring success in Test cricket than the past couple of years.

Yes, they weren't challenged much, but everything was done in a calm and mature way.

I don't know what has happened with Pakistan, the players need to rise up to the occasion, it's the egos. You've got to take that responsibility and swell and do better.

What was important for England is that they needed to win a game of cricket and they've done that, full credit.

With the bat in hand, I didn't see many dance down the wicket trying to smack it. I saw a lot of control.

More from England bowler Ollie Robinson on Test Match Special, speaking about the bowling attack: "We feel like as a bowling group as soon as one or two of us click, the rest of us seem to click as well and kind of follow each other.

"I thought everyone bowled well this week. Gus [Atkinson] only got one wicket but I thought he bowled really well, Jof [Archer] lit up the second innings with the new ball.

"With the four-man pace attack we've got, I think we'll be seeing a lot more of that, getting a lot of wickets in clusters and the others coming in and helping each other along the way.

"I'm just trying to be as consistent as possible and tweak my skill. I've got guys at the other end bowling 90mph, which is always a nice place to be. I feel the batters are coming harder at me because of it and it brings me into the game more. We complement each other really well."

On bowling down the slope instead of Archer: "At Hove [for Sussex], Jof bowls up the hill and I bowl down and it's worked well at Hove so we stuck with it.

"First day the wind was going across the ground and perfect for Jof to hold it away from the left-handers and then Rooty wanted me to start this end today because of the first innings. I got away with it this week, I don't think I will at Lord's next week."

'Out first ball!' - Robinson strikes with first ball of the morning

England bowler Ollie Robinson speaking to Test Match Special about playing two Tests this summer and winning two player of the match awards: "I don't really know! I'm just rolling up and trying to do my best really and it's working at the moment. I'm sure there will be a lot worse day than the past two Tests I've had. Just trying to stay level and do my best."

On taking a wicket with the first ball of the series: "It's great to set the tone like that, not just for myself but for the team. As a group of bowlers we're trying to be ultra-consistent and when I can set the tone like in the first over, it sets the template for the rest of the game."

  9. 'You want to come in and set a marker down'published at 16:34 BST

England interim coach Marcus Trescothick, speaking to Test Match Special: "Delighted, so much good stuff we've done over the course of the three days. We've been tested in different areas and had challenged in different parts but I think we've responded nicely in the parts we needed to and there's a lot of things that we're very happy with.

"It's always good, you want to come in and set a marker down. Get that feelgood feeling around, keep that energy in the group. Change can be difficult and when you've had major changes like we have, there's always that little bit of trepidation.

"What's it going to be like and what's it going to be next. Me and Joe [Root] have tried to keep it nice and calm, use the parts that we've believed to be good, then we've tried to tweak and guide going forwards.

"I think there were still parts of the game where we scored quicky. You've got to try and put the pressure on the bowlers. We still want to be able to score heavy, score fast, you've just got to be good enough where you can read and adapt and read situations.

"There were definitely parts yesterday where we were challenged because of the conditions. The lights were on and the rain was around, it wasn't easy. I think there were definitely situations in the game that we read nicely, players coming in not playing many games, playing in the fashion that you want them to play.

"They had the skill that we knew they had and wanted them to play. All in all, combination of different things, you're very pleased with it."

On if he'll stay as part of the coaching set-up: "I'd love to. I've a huge amount of respect for Steven [Fleming] and what he's done in the game, he was a fantastic captain and leader and has done a brilliant job doing what he's done as a coach. It's really not in my job or position to judge that. I'd love to carry on.

"We've had a great time doing the job and what we've been doing with some success and challenges. We'll wait until we get the tap on the shoulder."

I thought England were brilliant from the moment Joe Root won the toss, the tactical side of what he brought.

It's an easy game as a captain because you aren't challenged by any of the batters that you're up against. Some of his tactical moves today, everything has gone the way of the England side.

Joe's had the perfect week - he scored some runs. A few new players into the side - Dan Lawrence got a fifty, Jordan Cox, back in at three, scored a few runs.

You couldn't have asked for a more perfect week from an England perspective.

England captain Joe Root, speaking to Test Match Special: "A really good week. From winning the toss and getting the opportunity to bowl on that surface, I think we exploited it really well and then once we got in the driver's seat, we drove the game the whole time.

"Really proud of the performance, from a bowling side, they've shown all the talent that we know they've got, it's a decent attack, I don't think they know how good they are yet.

"The more they can perform like that, the more we can back up performances like that very quickly, they can start to prove to themselves how capable they are at this level. I think they complement each other brilliantly, there's a great variety in it, slightly different skillsets.

"Throughout the game I thought they bowled in partnerships really well. It's a great way to start the series. Can we keep evolving with it and recognise what the surface is like at Lord's and see if we can exploit that.

"You can set whatever fields you want, the bowlers have still got to deliver. Sometimes you've set fields for different reasons, sometimes it works out exactly how you see it.

"You're always trying to make plays and find wickets like I said the guys executed brilliantly, we caught beautifully as well which is important.

"Our batting, Jordan Cox batting first time at three looked very composed, in control, organised. Dan [Lawrence] coming back in at six put a good score under his belt after not playing in an England shirt for a long time was very impressive. There's a lot of really good stuff there. A lot to build on and really pleasing."

  14. 'Good signs' with batting approach - Trescothickpublished at 16:23 BST

England interim coach Marcus Trescothick, speaking to Sky Sports: "Very pleased, ideal for the situation and what we were looking for.

"Of course, there have been challenges, changes - and they've been quite significant.

"With the structure of what we've had and new players coming every couple of days, to put in the performance and show the skills we wanted to, I'm over the moon with the win."

On the batting: "Pretty good. I was very pleased to get 400. I think we were challenged with the conditions yesterday, they were very different. The lights were on most of the day, there was a little bit of drizzle around which is quite challenging.

"Funnily enough, the spinner came on and took five wickets. It's not what you'd normally expect here.

"There were good signs in that we were applying pressure when we needed to, scoring quickly at points - five, six an over at points - then when we needed to sit in a little bit, absorb the challenges of how well they were bowling, we were able to do so.

"Of course, there are a couple of areas you still want to try and improve on, maybe getting a hundred in the situation where you have four people getting fifties. But pretty pleased."

You look at Pakistan and their preparation, it couldn't have been any better. They went to the Caribbean, found their first win in a while. Won a decent warm-up game against the Professional Cricketers' Association. Then, they came here and were outclassed.

They've come up against an England side who have got the bit between their teeth, they knew they needed to win some games.

It was the perfect side for England to play and get back on the winning trail.

  16. 'It will look different every game'published at 16:19 BST

More from England captain Joe Root at the presentation, on his side's risk-free batting: "I think the fact we played what was in front of us and managed what we needed to, and when we had opportunities to put pressure back on, we did it well.

"The more we can roll that out - it will look different every game and it's being okay with that, understanding what it looks like, communicating that well as a group and being skilful enough to deliver on that. Really pleasing, as I said.

"We'll have different challenges, different things to contend with at Lord's and we've got a good amount of time to ready ourselves for that."

On how England will balance their attack if conditions at Lord's are spin-friendly: "Let's see what we get when we get down there. The beauty of that is we have time leading into the game. Let's see where we're at and let's enjoy what was a brilliant performance this week and a great way to start to start the series."

On his performance as captain and how it impacts his batting: "Love playing for England, batting for England - that's never really going to waver. It was nice to get a score. Very disappointed with my dismissal, as you would be as a batter when you're in and in control of the game.

"For us to put that on Dan and Harry having already lost Jordan is what we don't want, so it wasn't great example-setting from me. But the way they responded was almost even more pleasing for us as a group. I feel good and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series."

England captain Joe Root, speaking at the presentation: "Brilliant performance. You look at the prep we had leading in, coming straight from The Hundred, the fact we're in a slight transition stage, but I thought the way that we dealt with all of that, the clarity and the way the guys approached this week has been outstanding.

"To put in a performance like that is really enjoyable, very skillful as well. I thought the bowlers exposed the conditions brilliantly, found the right areas very early on in the Test match and ensured we got ahead in the game.

"I thought we showed maturity actually in how to manage the conditions and it's a big reason we're here now."

On England's bowling attack: "It's very exciting because I still think they don't know how good they are yet and what they're capable of, and I think that's a great place to be when you can put in performances like that.

"An attack with that kind of variety, different things to call upon at different times in the game, and as well the fact they bowled well in partnerships. Lots of really good stuff in that department.

"I thought we played really well with the bat. Very bowler friendly conditions. Jordan Cox coming in at three and playing with such control, such a calm nature. I think we found a really good tempo, managing the phases.

"Dan [Lawrence] coming in at six and getting a score like he did, Brooky showing why he's the best player in the world. Lots of good stuff to take into Lord's and start the series."

  20. 'Focus on being ultra-consistent'published at 16:06 BST

    Ollie RobinsonImage source, Getty Images

Player of the match Ollie Robinson speaking at the presentation: "It's a great way to start. That's my job, I suppose, setting the tone and to get a wicket first ball is a great feeling.

"I said yesterday I didn't feel in great rhythm. The hills here took me a little bit of time to get used to. I was trying to focus on being ultra-consistent, hitting line and length, and letting the wicket and the ball do the rest. It felt like a nice wicket for me to bowl on.

"It was nipping both ways and I knew if I could control my length and my line I was in the game."

On performing throughout the game rather than just with the new ball: "It's really good. Had a hard six weeks before this, played a few one-day games, but I was working with the ECB medical team on getting as fit as I could. I felt like today, coming back again for another spell up the hill, I maintained my speeds, maintained my skill and that's what I'm looking to do. There's still a lot of work to do, I'm not there yet, but it's a pleasing start."

On how he approached Pakistan's second innings versus the first: "A little more swing second innings. The pitch got slower and it wasn't nipping as fast. I went more upright with the seam and tried to swing a few. But being as consistent as possible, I knew I was in the game."

On whether he'll play the next Test: "I hope so. Go back to the newborn now [Robinson's partner has just had a baby] and try and get as much sleep as I can before the next Test."
