The 14:40 inspection has now been pushed back until 15:00.

But there are no grey clouds on the horizon any more. This one looks far more promising.

A little bit of news from the England men's side of things.

Hampshire's spinning all-rounder Liam Dawson has retired from first-class cricket.

The 36-year-old was recalled to England's Test set-up last summer and played one match at Old Trafford, but was not selected for the Ashes tour in the winter.

He played four of Hampshire's five County Championship matches this season, and retires from the red-ball game on the day England named a Test squad that did not feature his name.

England handed international debuts to Jodi Grewcock and Tilly Corteen-Coleman on Sunday, while Dani Gibson played her first one-day international having featured in T20s since 2023.

Each of them were in the wickets in England's one-wicket win.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news (again).

    It's hammering down.

It's not long until all the squads fly into England for the World Cup.

Australia have named their line-up for the tournament, with captain Sophie Molineux passed fit to play.

Fast bowler Lucy Hamilton has been selected for her first international tournament as the six-time champions look to regain the World Cup title after losing in the semi-finals in 2024.

Take a look at the whole squad here.

The covers are gradually being taken off, but there is still quite a lot of surface water and the umpires are hovering nearby.

For the players, it's hoodies and bobble hats all round - it's not really giving cricket weather vibes.

It is fluctuating between being bright and breezy to grey and gloomy very quickly. I think we're in for "one of those days".

England have named the uncapped trio of Emilio Gay, James Rew and Sonny Baker in their 15-man line-up, while Ollie Robinson has been recalled after two years.

Rehan Ahmed could also appear in his first Test on home soil, but Zak Crawley has been dropped after a poor Ashes campaign.

England squad for first Test against New Zealand: Ben Stokes, Rehan Ahmed, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Matthew Fisher, Emilio Gay, James Rew, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue.

Yes, we've already got a delayed start - welcome to the second international of the English summer, folks.

We were due to start at 13:00 BST - that's not going to happen after rain this morning.

There'll be a pitch inspection at 13:15, but the forecast for the day is not wonderful, so if we get on I suspect it'll be a bit on-off.

    Hello there.

After edging past New Zealand in the first one-day international at Chester-le-Street on Sunday, England will be hoping for a more comfortable afternoon in Northampton.

However, the rain might have a say in proceedings...
