Leicestershire's fine start to the season continues.

At Old Trafford Ian Holland has just dismissed Lancashire opener Keaton Jennings for nine to leave the hosts 19-2.

Derbyshire are wobbling on 54-3 against Northants, although Wayne Madsen is in the middle to try and steady things.

Gloucestershire have recovered slightly to 40-2 against Kent and Glamorgan are off to a good start against Middlesex at Lord's. The Welsh side are 42-0.

Brad Wheal raps Archie Vaughan (12) on the pad and there is a prolonged appeal but no raised finger.

Looked pretty close and the Somerset opener had not made much of a stride if at all but possibly just outside off.

It's been a terrific morning so for Jacob Duffy.

I think the Worcestershire coach Alan Richardson will be looking for something strong from his side this morning.

They were put to bed pretty well and truly by Yorkshire last weekend and he was saying he was really at how they were going to bounce back for this.

Essex 42-2 v Worcestershire

A let off for Jordan Cox.

Jacob Duffy's drawn him forward, it's taken the edge and although dying on Rob Jones at third slip he can't hang on as he dives forward to grab it.

How costly might that be?

A clipped four from Daniel Hughes off the bowling of Jordan Clark and that is the half century up for this pair in 56 balls at a pacey run rate of 5.78 per over.

Warwickshire 34-2 v Nottinghamshire

To be fair the overcast conditions threatened a bit of bad weather and, after 40 minutes, it's hit Edgbaston.

The rain's light but it's enough to take the players off and the hover cover on.

Hamza Shaikh has 12 and Sam Hain's looked in good touch unbeaten on 17 off 15 balls.

Hopefully not a long break.

Sussex are off to a flier here at Hove with Daniel Hughes racing to 36 and Tom Haines on the undercard with a steady 10.

Gus Atkinson has just finished the second over of his County Championship season and was welcomed back in that one with a lovely crack through backward point from Hughes.

Steady start from the Yorkshire openers with Adam Lyth, 14, and Finley Bean, 6, taking a good look before being too expansive.

Probably one of those tosses that both captains didn't mind losing with no great dramas off the pitch or through the air so far.

Kent, who have won their opening two matches, have picked up a couple of early wickets against Gloucestershire who are 15-2. Nathan Gilchrist has removed both openers - Cameron Bancroft and Ben Charlesworth.

Early table-toppers Leicestershire have also got an early breakthrough at Lancashire. Ian Holland has just bowled Michael Jones to leave the hosts 18-1.

At Lord's, Glamorgan are 22-0 against Middlesex and Derbyshire are 23-1 against Northants - David Lloyd the batter to go.

Let's hope we get enough play here to make it a decent game of cricket.

The weather forecast for the weekend is not great which may perhaps suit Somerset more than Hampshire because Somerset have not had a great record here in recent years. They last won here 2021 but since then it's been either a defeat or a draw.

So it's a big game for Somerset who will be without their captain Lewis Gregory who is not fit.

Looks a good batting pitch here at Hove.

Tom Haines has joined in the boundaries with a cut through backward point off Jordan Clark.

Sussex going at six an over..

First boundary of the morning for Sussex and a very nice shot it was too, Dan Hughes pinging fellow Dan (Worrall) straight back up the pitch through a straight long off area.

And he backs it up with another two in the same over, leaning into a delivery through cover and a straighter drive through extra. Good start from Hughes and Sussex.

It looks like a good toss for Worcestershire to win, with distinguishing between the outfield and the pitch not easy as they are very similar shades of green.

But it's been a watchful start from Essex's openers - Paul Walter and Charlie Allison.

Walter beautifully drove Jacob Duffy to the cover boundary in the first over and Allison has safely seen off Tom Taylor's first set of six.

A textbook start for Notts and for Brett Hutton.

With Dillon Pennington not playing he's taken the new ball and struck.

Last week when he came on - his fist spell he got a wicket with his very first ball and in his second he got a wicket with his second ball so that's something that he's brought with him to Edgbaston.

What a fabulous start for Nottinghamshire, it looks like a good toss to win under cloudy skies.
