Abdullah Mason is a world champion - winning the vacant WBO lightweight title - at just 21 years old.

He becomes the youngest reigning male world champion. Atomweight Camila Zamorano is the youngest reigning world champion at the age of 17 (who is beating that?!).

A hard one for Sam Noakes to take. It's the first time he has lost but it's a defeat at world level and he was in that fight.

No doubt Noakes will be back. Who knows, we could even see a rematch - I don't think many would argue.

Two judges saw it at 115-113 with the other scoring it 117-111.

What a magnificent contest we have just witnessed! For what it's worth, I think Mason will be a wide winner on points, but he will know he has been in the hardest fight of his life.

What a way to get this run of four title fights up and running.

And that's it.

Mason stabs out a jab but Noakes walks through it and comes back with a right over the top.

They lean in close and Noakes gets through with a right hook.

Noakes has blood coming from his eye and nose.

He calls Mason on as they head toward the final minute.

Noakes digs a left to the body but Mason comes back with a combination.

Noakes has let the last two rounds get away from him but is still very much in this fight with two to go.

The Briton takes control of proceedings with a jab and follows with a couple of hooks as Mason shells up.

Noakes goes after it again.

Mason fights back with a left hook but it's Noakes who has the final say in the round.

Mason is really coming into his own.

The American rocks Noakes with a left hand to the head and then lands an uppercut onto the body of the dazed Noakes. He starts to back away towards the ropes. Mason senses a finish and unloads the tank.

But Noakes somehow manages to survive!

Noakes looked out on his feet at the end of the eighth, but what a response. Noakes has made everyone proud there, what a round.

Mason got a stern talking to between rounds and seems to have taken that advice on board.

The American shows slick footwork to slip away, cutting angles and landing shots.

As Kal said earlier, Noakes said last year that if he wins a world title he wants it to feel like a Rocky film - black eyes, knockdowns, the whole comeback script.

No knockdowns as of yet but he's got blood pouring from his left eye.

Noakes has landed 81 power punches with Mason landing 93 so far.

There was a moment in that round where you could tell Mason knew he had Noakes hurt. What a fight!

Noakes and Mason have both gone the distance just twice each in their 17 previous fights.
