Fàilte! We’re back in Lochaber this month, and there’s certainly plenty going on. Music, culture, a bit more Gaelic to learn, and, given our surroundings, I think there’ll be a bit of hill walking too!

A few days ago I was at an event called the ‘John Muir Trust on the Ben’. It was all about the ways in which the John Muir Trust protects and looks after Ben Nevis. Walking isn’t usually damaging to the environment, but when the number of people walking the same path is over 50,000, the erosion can be significant! It’s astonishing, the amount of damage it can do! It’s good practice to stick to the paths when they’re there, to prevent further erosion.

Last night, I went to a tribute band called ‘Buddy Holly and the Cricketeers’. Buddy Holly is one of my all-time favourite musicians, and these guys certainly did his music justice! ‘Peggy Sue’ is just such a catchy tune! It amazes me that Munro can listen to that loud noise he seems to like so much when there is music like this out there!

Today and tomorrow is the ‘Lochaber Dog Show’. Brochan and I will go along, and see what’s what. He won’t be going for any of the prizes; I think Brochan may be too much of a character for most of the judges to cope with! He’s certainly not got the manners! We should have a good time, never-the-less.

Le dùrachd,

Seanair

Madainn mhath a h-uile duine! A bheil sibh gu math? Eh??

The Royal National Mòd is now finished. We heard some really good piping, clàrsach, fiddle and a lot of singing, as well as plenty more! It was all of a very high quality, and it was perhaps the best selection of Gaelic music we’ve heard all year, and that’s quite an achievement! There were some super cèilidhs, which left Melodaidh with a bit of a sore head … if you get my meaning!

In a couple of days, I think we’ll climb up Ben Nevis again. I know we were up earlier this year, but that’s no reason not to go again! Things just improve with age! The views from the top are so breathtaking; you really do have to experience them for yourselves!

Yesterday we went on the Jacobite steam train. It took us from Fort William to Mallaig, where we got to spend a few hours. Mallaig is a really lovely port, full of fishing ships. I spent a fair deal of time on fishing boats in my younger days, and it was good to be at a fully functioning pier again!

We also found out about a lovely little place called Inverie, which is on the peninsula of Knoydart. The only way to get there is to walk, or to take a boat. For the first time in a long time, I’m not sure which I’d prefer! The walk is such a long one that I wouldn’t have much time to enjoy the village itself! Still, I’m sure I’ll come up with something before we go in a few days time!

Tìoraidh an-dràsta,

Seanair
