Madainn mhath a h-uile duine! Abair latha brèagha! I can’t wait to get started on my trip from Inverness to Glasgow. I’ll be putting my best foot forward from the starting point just beside Inverness Castle and setting off along the Great Glen Way and then onto the famous West Highland Way.

Oh, it’ll be wonderful! The dirt beneath my boots, Brochan by my side. I think I might have a lot of the time to myself as the other 3 haven’t been to enthusiastic about the prospect.

It’s one of old Dwelly’s good ideas. He thinks we should walk from the town of one Gaelic school to another. Splendid! So off we go …

It’s been a wee while since I did this trek – I seem to remember the hills weren’t so big, but I was younger and a little sprightlier back then! Ha-ha! I can’t wait. I’ll see if I can persuade the boy to come, too!

Tha mi fhèin agus Morag a’ dol dhan Ghearastan san fheasgar! That’s right, a wee trip to Fort William tonight to see the Traditional Music Awards for me, and Morag is going to listen to some Gaelic songs in Roy Bridge ….maybe we might find a wee cèilidh or two afterwards. I wonder if it will be as exciting as when the Mòd took place?

Mar sin leibh an-dràsta,

Seanair

Halò a-rithist!

Tha e leth-uair an dèidh naoi, agus tha mi deiseil is deònach! It’s 9.30 in the morning and I’m ready and willing to go. Glasgow here I come!

Munro, Melodaidh and Morag have said they’ll take it in turns to accompany me, and that sounds fine. Munro is kicking about just now, waiting for me to start. He’s coming with me today and tomorrow. It’ll give me what these new-fangled people call ‘quality-time’ with young Munro. We’ve been rushing around so much this year, I hope he doesn’t think I’ve neglected him.

Tìoraidh an-dràsta a chàirdean,

Seanair

Feasgar math! Ciamar a tha sibh a-nochd? Tha mi an dòchas gu bheil sibh uile gu math! Tha mise ann an deagh thriom! That’s another Dwelly phrase that I learnt – it means ‘I’m in good form’.

I might not be as young as I once was, but the old legs are still flying! I’ve had a lovely trip so far, up and down to Drumnadrochit – what views! Today, it was a leisurely jaunt to Invermoriston, where we could see Urquhart Castle. There was no sign of Dwelly’s old friend Nessie, though!

I nearly forgot in all the excitement of setting off that I have seen two exciting concerts this month already – the Traditional Music Awards were overflowing with talent. On Sunday night, I went to a young folks’ venue – the Ironworks in Inverness – to see Fred Morrison. Marvellous stuff! I’d just about persuaded Munro to come, but then he heard there would be bagpipes and he said something about …. Well, he mumbled something about the ‘last place on earth’. I just couldn’t make it out!

Now, time for a wee dram and off to bed to rest for my next day walking.

Oidhche mhath!

A bheil sibh gu math! Tha mise gu dòigheil! What an excellent idea of Dwelly’s to trek back to Glasgow! I’ve now reached Fort William (An Gearastan in Gaelic, remember!). There’s still enough to see in Fort William even although we’re in the middle of winter. The scenery looking out over Loch Linnhe is just ….. glorious! Melodaidh came along with me on this last leg – lovely to have her company.

Mar sin leibh an-dràsta!

A chàirdean!

Latha math eile! I’ve just finished off my final day of walking on the West Highland Way, it was a little stroll down to Milngavie. I made sure we all went as far as the granite marker in Douglas Street. Munro grumbled all the way from Carbeth, even although the loch looked nice. Oh well …..

Chì mi a-rithist sibh,

Sin sibh! Ciamar a tha sibh? A bheil sibh gu math? Glè mhath! Tha mise air mo dhòigh. It’s the last day of our wonderful trip … and I don’t want it to end! Maybe I’ll just set off with Munro Junior again tomorrow … I’m sure he’d be happy if I told him he can have extended holidays!

Thank you all for reading my blog!

Bliadhna Mhath Ùr dhuibh uile!

Oidhche mhath!
