Munro | Morag > TUESDAY, APRIL 24, 2007 Madainn Mhath! Seo an latha aig Melodaidh - D-day! Yes today is the day that Melodaidh will be taking part in the surfing competition and we’ll all be cheering on the sideline for her! Well it’ll actually be on the beach but you know what I was getting at. She’s very excited and keeps referring to things as ripping and da-bomb. She also keeps referring to Munro Jnr as a little “criddler” whatever that is? It seems that Thurso is a thoroughly historical place with a lot of history. Apparently Sir John Sinclair was the first man to record the first statistical record of Scotland in 1770 and there is a square named after him in town. He also built Thurso’s New Town in 1798. We also had a wander around the castle ruins which date back to the 1220s you know. This area was also renowned for flagstone production in the 1800s and it was flagstone from this area that paved virtually the whole of Paris. Now there are some interesting facts for you! Co-dhiù I better get going and get my megaphone and get down to the beach! Seanair POSTED BY SEANAIR AT 09.17 AM - 0 COMMENTS TUESDAY, APRIL 10, 2007 Halò a-rithist! Ciamar a tha thu? Tha mise gu math agus tha mi tioram an-diugh! Chan eil mi surfadh (Mel told me this one) a-rithist! Now it seems that Thurso is the place for me to be experimenting with new things, surfing being one of them and a Country Music Festival being another. I’m not really used to listening to the “Country Music” but it was a very enjoyable weekend indeed. My late wife, bless her soul, used to enjoy a bit of Dolly Parton but I, myself am more of a Jimmy Shand man. Now there was a man who could get my toes a tapping. Morag seemed to thoroughly enjoy the weekend; I think she might be a bit of a line dancer in her spare time! Yes, here we are in Thurso and that little blighter, Dwelly, has got us into a right pickle of a task. Never in my life have I been on a surfboard and, after this task, I never will be again! I don’t know, these young folk and their new-fangled funny ideas. I mean don’t get me wrong, I do love the sea and there’s nothing better than a walk along the beach on a good day (apart from maybe a walk up a “beinn” of course) but this surfing malarkey is a lot of nonsense. I’d like to see Dwelly himself on one, now I’d pay good money to see that! Anyway Morag and myself intend to do a bit of historical site seeing once we get this surfing nonsense out of the way. I shall really rather enjoy that Must go, Munro Jnr wants on “the net” - he’s not very impressed with the North so far but then again he’s always gurning about something!
