Bliadhna Mhath Ùr! (Happy New Year!)

The other big celebration of the festive season is New Year, which, for a long time, was the bigger event in the Highlands and Islands. Melodaidh and Morag (yes, really!) are fired with party enthusiasm and exchange New Year greetings. Have a listen to their conversation and you’ll soon pick up some very handy phrases for the festive season.

Munro and Seanair on christmas day.

Melodaidh A Mhorag! Bliadhna Mhath Ùr!
Morag! Happy New Year!
Morag Bliadhna Mhath Ùr agus mòran dhiubh
Happy New Year and many of them
Melodaidh Bliadhna Mhath Ùr agus a h-uile nì nas fheàrr na chèile

Morag Tha mi an dòchas gum bi deagh Bhliadhn’ Ùr agad!
I hope you will have a good New Year!
Melodaidh Tha mi an dòchas gum bi làithean-saora math agad!

Morag Chì mi sa Bhliadhn’ Ùr thu!
