FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2007 Uill, uill, a chàirdean, I’ve discovered a magnificent Gaelic film. It’s called “Seachd – The Inaccessible Pinnacle” and it’s set on the Isle of Skye. It was filmed there too, and features many local up-and-coming actors! There’s no shortage of magic in it, which makes it all the better! Someone told me that you could find out more at www.seachd.com. (In case you’re wondering, that’s a website address, so it’s no good looking for it on a map! Ho ho!) We’ve certainly had a full month in Orkney! There’s been so much going on that I wasn’t sure they’d manage it all! But there was certainly a wide selection of things on offer for all to see and do! There were races near the start of the month, where they did quite well. Even Munro Jr. didn’t embarrass himself completely! They certainly learnt a lot about history this month, with trips to many old buildings, and even some ancient ones! They saw buildings which were put up during the Second World War for radar, a castle, and buildings from ages long forgotten (although it’s amazing how seeing them again can jog one’s memory!). There was also an arts and crafts weekend, where they got to hear some great music, and see some Orcadian crafts as well. And then there was a bird watching weekend! This may well have been one of the most diverse months our travellers have had so far. But even with all that, I still managed to teach a bit more Gaelic! Sin e airson na mìos seo! Tha sinn air ais anns a’ Ghearasdan air an ath mhios. Chì mi ann sibh! Dwelly POSTED BY DWELLY AT 15:23 PM - 0 COMMENTS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2007 Hàlo a h-uile duine! Ciamar a tha sibh uile? Tha sinn a’ tòiseachadh sa bhad am mìos seo aig Fèis Shaidheans Eadar-Nàiseanta Arcaibh. Things start straight away this month with the Orkney International Science Festival! It should be a very interesting time for all our adventurers, with a wide range of activities and events for all! And there’s plenty of exploring to be done as well, with 71 islands to explore. Lots of people will say that the exact number is difficult to come up with, because it’s hard to decide how big they have to be before they’re considered an island, but I think it’s 71. ’S e ’m balach Dwelly! This month’s event is slightly different to the ones our adventurers have been going to so far. The Orkney International Science Festival is happening this month, and they will almost certainly learn something new. Even Munro Jr, who seems to think he’s the leading scientist of the group, could pick up a tip or two! The festival going to be looking at the work of James Clerk Maxwell, a great Scottish scientist. I can remember young Jimmy well. I was always amazed that he came up with such incredible and insightful ideas without the aid of magic. Truly a fantastic man! After the science festival, there is plenty for this lot to be getting on with. There’s history all over this place, from the 5000-year old settlement of Skara Brae, which was lost until 150 years ago (a bit careless!) to the effects the world war had on the islands and people of Orkney. There is a race today, which Munro and Melodaidh are going to try. And there’s a triathlon coming up in a week too, so there’s no lack of activity this month! Cùmaibh a’ leughadh airson barrachd fiosrachaidh! Mar sin leibh uile an-dràsta! Dwelly POSTED BY DWELLY AT 08:56 PM - 0 COMMENTS |
