Melodaidh Brochan

Is mise Dwelly!

Halò! I'm Dwelly, Lord of the West Highlands.

I'm so old I can't actually remember my age, but I feel like a youngster. I'm from Glen Etive, which is not too far from Glencoe. It's one of the most beautiful parts of the country and I hope I'll get the chance to tell you more about it in 2007.

You might be wondering where my name comes from, because it isn't a Gaelic one. Well, I was named after Edward Dwelly, an English soldier who wrote the Gaelic dictionary that most people still use today. See? A mythical Highland creature and an English soldier - it really is a language for everyone!

For a creature with one eye, one arm and one leg, I think I'm at an advantage. Just think, when I get a pair of gloves, it means I've got a spare should I ever lose one!

I'm looking forward to a year helping my new friends Seanair, Brochan, Melodaidh, Morag and Munro learn about Gaelic and about the Highlands. I'll be teaching them as much as I can, and throwing a few wee challenges their way.

Just when they least expect it, I'll be popping up to make life interesting. I hope you'll stick around and come on the adventure with us!

Mar sin leibh!
