The 13th (Western) Division of which the 5th Bn Wiltshire Regt was a part, fought at the battle of Kut al Amara Dec 1916-February 1917.
I feel pretty certain that this was where Uncle "Dick" was when he was wounded in the leg, he developed gangrene but refused to have it amputated, he must have died a very painful death.
On enquiring about his army service we were told that he had previously served in the Somerset Light Infantry but have been unable to find out anything about this.
As he was a National Hunt jockey at Danebury Racing Stables, till the owner died and his daughter closed the yard down, I have always been surprised that he wasn't in the cavalry.
