William's Story
He sustained injuries from his own artillery fire while seeking out the enemy.
My wife and I were extremely fortunate to locate and visit my wifeÂ’s grandfatherÂ’s grave outside Peronne in France and to discover what happened to him during World War I. Having read the regimentÂ’s diaries it appears that he was a victim of what today is termed as friendly fire: he sustained injuries from his own artillery fire while seeking out the enemy in northern France.
