Torre Llaufuda, Minorca by Michael Gillingwater

"The radio has been important to me over the years while  I'm painting. I listen to Radios 3 and 4. The World Service is handy while abroad. The classical music stations are particularly helpful in creating a good ambience for my work. In the studio I listen using the hi-fi system, while on location for landscape work a walkman with headphones is  a compact solution. The work I have chosen entitled Torre Llaufuda is a Talayotic site from the bronze age and is about 3000 years old. This painting includes two Taulas or table which are unique to Minorca. Their purpose is  unknown, though they have been described as symbols of a Mediterranean Bull cult or less likely as architectural supports. In the shade of an olive grove it is certainly beautifully situated."
