"Radio 4 is my studio companion throughout days which could occasionally become lonely. Creativity doesn't come from application of intellect, and listening provides a distraction that stops me thinking too analytically about what I'm doing. Woman's Hour is unfailingly interesting, Today and World at One informative, The Archers' theme tune transports me back half a century, and the Afternoon Play nearly always entertains. Only gardening programmes bore me because our 'garden' is a woodland and meadow wilderness for hedgehogs, dormice, bats and birds, so I prefer programmes about wild nature and science. Fortunately there are plenty of those too."
